Ok so when I play Planetside I have no problems, but as soon as I use anything for Warcraft III:TFT my computer freezes and I get a message along these lines: "VPU Recover was unable restore system deadlock, blah." I am fairly certain it has to do with my ATI card, but I have no clue as to what about it. Help?

are you overclocking?

No. I just got this 9800 XT, and I think maybe it's defective. Martyr, where are you? You know everything.

Turn VPU recover off for one, its a massive waste.

Second, All ATI cards tend to run hot, and PlanetSide is not very VPU taxing.

Neither is Warcraft 3 really, but what it seems to me is you could be over heating.

First, I'd turn off VPU recover and see what happens, if it doesn'tlock up or freeze, then you are fine, obviously.

If it does, or you see any sort of artifacting, Id check your cooling situation.

EG: DO you have case fans? Are they Blocked? Is it really warm in your room? Is teh Computer very dusty?

If all is well there, you may have been unlucky and got a junk card.

The usual fail safe, reinstall driver, get new, or try older drivers always applies as well.

Also, did you buy this card new or used?

I have four fans.
Room is about 70 degrees F.
Card was Brand new.
Turned VPU off, awaiting failure.

While I wait for that, I have one other question. My monitor is very blurry, you can only notice when trying to read fine text. I've tried degaussing it, reseting the options to default, but it doesn't go away. I suspect I need a new monitor.

It froze in a game of DOTA:Allstars, so I don't know.

what resolution? what refresh rate? Do you have smooth fonts enabled?

I think your original problem may be do to over heating, this can be that your heatsink is not seated properly, or that your card is sub standard and can't ahndle noraml heat, but seeing as the XT is just a handpicked Pro for all intents and purposes it should be fine.

try diferent drivers Ect. and if that doesn't work RMA it
