theyre pretty gay. last time I used one I was wicked high and flipped out when I thought it moved by itself.

They aren't scientific at all. All they are, are a few people pusing the little triangle thingy. Whoever pushes harder, is the one who spells out what they want.

Watch Derren Brown: Seance. He explains how it works (it's really obvious anyway to me, but to any others it may help).

Basically, all of you are concentrating so hard on it that you forget about how hard you're pushing, and one pushes slightly harder than the others. I took part in one once and it was ridiculous, I could feel the glass being pulled away from me, so I looked at the others and one of them was pushing and pulling it so hard... I just fail to see how any can believe it. My mum does, and it bugs me to hell.
