US politicians fed up with catching an eyeful of underwear want to fine those who won't hitch up their trousers.

The Virginia state house has voted to outlaw the trend of wearing trousers so low that underwear hangs over the top.

Delegates said the habit, popular across the US and in other Western countries, was "coarsening" society.

But others hit back, urging legislators to remember their own "fashion follies" and saying the law would be used mostly against black people.

The house adopted the "droopy drawers" bill by a margin of 60-34.

There is more on the site. TBH, I'm for it.

For once, politicians are stopping people from looking like complete pillocks.

i personally think that the government should stay the fuck out of people's personal lives. it's no one's business what anyone else does with their clothes. i don't wear my TROUSERS like that, but i don't think that anyone should tell me how to wear my clothes or what to wear. appropriate or stylish or not, it doesn't matter. it's no one else's business. government is supposed to keep me from fucking with you, and you from fucking with me, and NOTHING ELSE.

Don't let them see that, they'll try and outlaw free speech.

My state is full of dumbfucks. Thank you conservative HQ, USA.

Yes, I agree, for the most part people look rather rediculous with their pants around their ankles. But you know what? It doesn't harm me in any way. As long as their junk is covered, I could care less. Let us control where we wear our pants, it's one of the few things we actually have control over. If this law passes, I will go out of my way to sag my pants as low as possible, and I will not pay any attention to the fines/ramifications. I will not have my fucking constitutional rights denied because a bunch of rednecks want to go on a spree against the youth and limit my liberties.

i don't wear my pants low but no one has the right to say you aren't allowed to wear your pants a certain way in public....understandable if you were showing something underneath the underwear but if you are showing a little bit of underwear, they have no right to say anything...

Saw this on the news tonight, very much true. Was right after the segment of firing people because they were smokers.

Now if they will just pass a law that forces people to wear the brim of their hate facing forward :p

Companies, Resturants, and EXPECIALLY Schools ALL have rules about clothing, so why not in the street? besides its illegal to be naked, so why should it not be illegal to show your underwear
Cops would take you in if you were only wearing you underwear.
I bet the reason they are passing it is so theres at least some deceny in public, why should showing your underwear be any different than showing your underwear with no pants?

by the way, I suck at saying my opinions, make sense of it damnit

Psttt most of what you named are private establishements, wich means they can do a dress code etc. but outside you're free to do whatever the fuck you want. Next you know, piercings, tattoos, "innapropriate" hair and other stuff will not be allowed because Mr. I have a stick up my ass has problems with it.

Then where will be our freedom?

Sorry I'm with oddfish on this one. The government does not have the right to set fashion restrictions except to prevent inappropriate exposure as well as offensive wording on clothing, IMO.

How is this law NOT breaking constitutional rights?

This is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. It sounds like old cenial conservative farts are offended by the sight of the rebellous teenager's underwear.

I never liked Virgina. I felt vey out of place there when I travelled through with my family to Florida.

I couldn't stand they're YEHAAAW! accents, and everyone saying YA'LL! (actually everyone in West Virgina, Tennesse and Georgia spoke that way too) and the sight of kids my age wearing "Southern Pride will never die" t-shirts made me want to vomit. I half expect the KKK to come pulling up to the restaurant my family and I were eating at.

My borther and I made fools of ourselves laughing when some fat red neck came in wearing a nascar jacket with Viagra on the back of it.

Yeah, so uhm I can see why people like them would go for a law like this. Urban people scare them!!!!!!! Virgina is the oppposite of everything thats urban culture.

I didn't see a single coloured person there either.

That pisses me off

I used to live in Virginia and now I even further south of it (If only south of the border). No I'm not a redneck, do I like nascar? Only when I see it on Spike TV showing the cars blowing up... Am I a conservative? Yes... Do I wear my pants around my ankles? No... but I do sorta sag my pants if only because I am constantly losing and gaining weight.. Do I say ya'll? Yes.. Am I gonna stop because someone doesn't like it? Hell No... wait wouldn't that mess with my freedom of speech?

For the love of God/Allah/Buddah/whatever deity, or lack thereof, please stop steorotyping southreners...

I will continue to where my pants low, not to untasteful but at least to the point where my grandfather will get upset. Will I fight my school about not being able to display a rebel flag, of course.. My family's heritage is woven into that flag... I don't hate black people... well there are a few that I really dislike, but that goes for a few white peeps too.

I'm sorry if I went nuclear on you, but It just makes me soo mad when people do that... I and 79% of all the white people that live here are NICE, DECENT, and LOVING, New York and PA never seemed like that

PS: In Nash County North Carolina (You pass right through it on I95) the ratio to white to black people is... roughly 40 to 60, favoring my colored brothers... Can you believe it, Im a minority...

I never said you had to stop speaking the way you do. I personally cant stand it. but your welcomed to continue to speak the way you want to

You know southreners aren't the only victims to stereotypes. I have dealt with lots of Canadian stereotyping in America.

I admit I kinda went over board. I just feel that this is such an ignorant law. It pisses me off soo much just thinking about the kind of people who probably wanted to put this law in place.

I don't think the law will pass, if only because democrats are being hard headed... but at least its for a good reason
