L337???

OK, so maybe I'm just ignorant. Someone explain to me why anyone wants to use L33T speech. The first thing I think of is always a 22 year old korean guy sitting in an internet cafe for 3 days playing some Tom Clancy game, Counterstrike, etc.

I know that all the L337 I see isn't coming just from those guys anymore. So someone tell me: why isn't this considered stupid?
Every L337 name I've ever seen is completely forgettable, if its even intelligible. Personally, I think it's pretty retarded (duh), but I'm willing to keep an open mind if someone can say anything good about it.

I use it tongue-in-cheek. I've never seen anyone actually speak in total L33t speak in Counter Strike in 2 years of playing on different servers. At most I see "total pwnage", or "U haxor!". Anytime I've seen someone who's entire name was written in L33t, they normally are very quiet and turn out to be cheating using wall hacks or whatever.

I never use 1337 speak unless I'm being obviousely sarcastic and makeing fun of someone else. I agree, it is retarded, and I never use it when trying to communicate.

Yes, I can read 1337, but I still dispise it like nothing else(except most celebrities)

I use 1337 when I want to intentionally be ridiculous or want to annoy someone. :D And of course I'm somewhat literate in it.
