I'm sure you'll all be devastated, JUST DEVASTATED to hear that the EA stocks fell $8.33 a share or a little over 12%, following EA's warning of lower than expected profits for its fiscal year 2005. "These results are clearly disappointing," said Larry Probst, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "While our new releases are performing reasonably well, they have not been able to offset a significant falloff in catalog sales."
Just devastated...
Woo!
But wait, there's MORE
The warning drove shares of Electronic Arts down $11.20, nearly 17 percent, to $55.15.

EA shutting down isn't necessarily a good thing. They have the potential to drag down a huge chunk of the industry if they go under.

As far as Im concerned that chunk of the industry can find jobs at a grocery store.

I really sincerily doubt that EA will truly "go under"... in other words, now would be a good time to buy shares and make a good profit out of it next year. I think it's common sense to assume they didn't pull a profit due to the huge purchases they did in the recent months.

No, a company is a collective singular. Like a band. You don't say "The band is going to start playing soon" because "band" is singular. Even though a "band" is made up of more than one person.
A company operates in the same way.

Like I said Corrosion... it's only a matter of time before they make back the money they lost. Fact is they purchased way too many licenses and companies this year but with that comes exclusivity for some titles like the NFL games and much much more. EA is not going out of business, I repeat EA is not going out of business. This sort of thing has happened before and it will happen again, a 17% drop in shares will not kill them outright if they play their cards correctly wich I'm sure EA will do.
Hell, Battlefield 2 is coming so... :brow:

He is right...Just because a business just went down that much, doesn't mean they are going out of business. QuikSilver just went down 11% in value from when I bought them. Doesn't mean they are going out of business, they bought a company and the transaction has made them lose some value, but they will go up soon.

ahh EA... its because they keep buying up more and more companies.. cant make up a profit buying 300 companies that you just close.

Thank you for that, can you tell me what rule that follows in grammar? (i've been learning this for the past month in english, sheesh...)
And I personally got no problem with EA, actually maybe a good third of my games are EA opposed to any others. EA wants to monopolize, fine by me. Madden's better than blitz anyways.

It's subject-verb agreement. "EA", although it a collective group of people, is considered a singular noun. A "collective group". "Are", however, is a plural verb. This is why you have to use "EA is" as opposed to "EA are", since "is" is singular and therefore fits.
