View Full Version : What PlanetSide needs is a "camo" suit.

Bear with me me - this is a modest idea, really.
The goal here is to get get infantry back in the game out side of bases on more than just battle islands.
-The suit would be identical to Agile armor slot and armor wise. But would only yet move at reinforced Armor speed.
-It would look just like Agile to other infantry and maxes and have no effect on how well they see you.
-Any one in a vehicle would not be able to see you unless you were closer than 75 meteres(It might be wise to make an exeption for Skeeters and let them see as well infantry.) You would be completely visible inside 75 meters and completely invisible outside of 75 meters to vehicles.
This would have 2 signifigant effects.
First it would allow for more infantry engagments in the the open.
Second it would encourge infantry gaurds for stationary armor.
Both of these effects would make the game more fun and varied as well as bring it slightly closer to real life combat tactics. And the coding change is relatively simple so it should be possible to implement.

I like the concept, but I can't say I'm a fan of the execution. I'd prefer a way to make infantry more viable outdoors while still allowing Agile, Reinforced, and so on to function. Making a new type of armor to address this issue may not be the best way to tackle it.

Well I have another simpler suggestion.
Dont allow vehicles(except the skeeter) to see any infantry at over 100 meters.
I decided on my first suggestion because I figured it would be easier to sell to naysayers. Either one would improve thr game greatly.
In the real world it is much harder to see people from in side an off road vehicle than when you are walking(barring high tech imaging shit.)
I think this is one are where the game would be greatlu improved if it was made more like real life.

skeeters already bully softies too much =(

Perhaps - but my suggestion has no effect at all on skeeters.
Believe me over all this would be a help to "softies."

It would help the softies, but whats the range on AV weapons? i think its more than that, so would be a real pain to keep getting hit with a lancer or phoenix or striker with no chance of seeing what is doing it.
On the other hand, if you reduce sight range to just outside effective weapons ranges, that could work, but people relaly dont engage others at that sort of distance.
suggested times before.
The usual response
"Buff Stealth gameplay? lol"
Infils will never, ever, be buffed. ever.

Whats wrong with just using infil but making a implant that you can only have at like br 18 and it makes darklight not be able to see you.

I think that having an implant that either negates or reduces the range DL can see you would be great. But thats just another thing a cloaker needs to be good.

I think some of you are really missing the point.
This in practice would be nothing like an inf suit. There wouldnt be any overlap even.
But you do make a good point about AV weapons. So I thought of a simple solution. Dont let anyone wearing the suit hold a striker, phonix or lancer. I think decimators would be ok at that range.

What do you want then like an armored infy?
in order for having no AV weapons, the entire weapon-inventory system would most likely have to be entirely revamped, as someone would find a way to exploit the system.

this is really sounding overly complicated

Actually they could apply the same style limiter that they have on BI to a suit, it prob woundnt be to difficult. But im not sure how many people would go for a mandatory visual range reduction for veh's vs. infantry. I understand the idea to make infantry better outdoors, but i personally dont htink this is the direction i would like ot see it go.

Im not so good at explaining things.
But this is actually quite simple.
There are legitimate reason some people may disagree.
But the inf suit comparisions some of you are making really dont make sense.

what the hell would it look like? I mean each empirew ould look like a kind of rock. The vanu would be quartz (oh gee wiz), the Nc would look like GOld (probably start knifing you and make sum cast iron thing), and TR would be like liquid hot magma. Eh.
And being that you cant prone whats the point of camo?, theres nothing really to match to.

It doesnt really matter what it looks like.
This would be a feature that largely compensates for for the lack of flora(almost all players have flora turned off). At range to people in the vehicles you would be invisable, up close and to inf it would be fine if it looked just like Agile Armor even.

it would be point less just get the stealth suit.

I do agree with the intial problem though, vehicles just roll over softies way too much, the only real counter is to travel in a pack of 3+ AV users, or stay around minefields

Many people have had similar ideas. Yet they leaned more towards actual camo, and not invisibility. I'd like a cert that allows you to equip certain patterns at the equipment terminal that would help you blend in with the continent you're on.
I think the NC get the shaft in the camo area because they shine bright gold, while the VS and TR are relatively dark at range. This sort of thing would level the playing field.

I like the above idea, I can really envision this one. There would be a primarily green suit for grassy areas like Cyssor, dark green / brown for the marshes of hossin and woodlands of Forseral, obviously a whitish snow suit for Esamir and Cery, and desert camo for Solsar and Ish, caves I'm not too sure about. They could simply add another tab to the equipment terminals, and make the cert cost two(?) points, I think that sounds fair as infil is two as well.
Also when targetting an enemy camo'd unit, your reticules shouldn't turn red, and enchanced targetting should only kick in when you engage him, or somthing like that. It would be pretty pointless if an enemy could just glide his rets through the woods and see em flash red and see RAINMAKER666 with a big red and blue bar under it appear.

I could live with the reticule thing. Im not tryng to hide from other infantry - just the big stuff.(But I do agree the gold color sucks.)
Id be happy if the long range hiding was limited to - BFRs, tanks and reavers, even.
