i was thinking once about how good tactical shooters are often in 3rd person, and i relised how easily an implant could be made for planetside users to make crosshairs appear in 3rd person, we are already able to fire in 3rd person, and some sort of technology could definitly be around this far in the future, if people wish for tactical SWAT like warfare, then i see no reason for not being able to see your squad and attack your enemy at the same time
any comments???

I don't think people would use it, nice thought though :)

If you added a tactical overlay, showing distances, targets and the like it plus maybe the ability to place waypoints without going to the map I think it would become quite a useful command for the budding commander.
Hell, throw it in for free with CRx after they remove OSes from command rank :D

I hope they never remove the OSes from CR. Believe it or not, it is a very tactical advantage and a leadership component to be able to give the ability to your troops to fight and push. Being pinned inside a base isn't always fun (unless you are interlink farming ^_^) and it is a very good ability for the commanders to use. The ability to take out the enemy's ams so that your troops can push and overcome them is extremely useful and helpful to the entire empire. Taking out OSes would be the most retarded thing the DEVs could do. They have already made enough bad decisions (*cough* BFRs *cough*) and the last thing they need to do is to remove the most effective weapon against them. So basically stop whining about OSes already. They are useful and at many times, needed.
Now, with regards to third person reticle, I'm not so sure that's a great idea. Myself, and many others enjoy the fact that you have to limit your view to effectively shoot. With third person reticles, you are also disadvantaged in upclose fights, such as when you jump from behind the center wall in a tower, ambushing someone. You won't be able to aim as effectively because it will be harder to judge the height at which to fire, which is another reason why people like FPS, so you can easily judge your fire/CoF.

how about 3rd person laser sights, DC style???
but with a longer range, of course...

I think your version of "tactical SWAT like warfare" is pure video game ideas. You think someone in a SWAT squad can see behind him to where his partner is shooting? No, they recieve training so they know what target to shoot at simultaneously. I don't think they should toss out 3rd person, it keeps it feeling like a game. But I don't think you should be able to have the benefit of accuracy on a target AND watch your own back at the same time. not to mention this would be a major nerf to the cloaking aspect of the game.

a) I don't whine.
b) My problem with OSes are their frequency not their existence but that's beside the point.
c) It doesn't detract from the idea :P~
d) Who said anything about removing 1st person?

a) The whining comment wasn't directed soley to you, but more towards those who always whine (OF)
b) Granted they are frequent, but it's part of the game
c) Agreed, if you are talking about the TPS thing
d) I didn't say anything about removing it, just said that 3rd person would have huge disadvantages in comparison with 1st person.
e) Sorry for being kind of a troll/ass in my previous post post, today has been really rough for me, found out a friend of mine died in a skiing accident in Maine on Friday :( :tear: :tear:

I am a CR5 TR and the OS is not as good as you think. In most cases unless you have infiltrator suit, you wont be able to get outside long enough to get the OS off, and even if you do get the AMS, there is bound to be another one rolling in.
If you want to remove the OS because of it's killing power then start thinking about the Reaver. I am quite used to flying at max altitude and looking for AMS's. If I do find one, I can light it up in a minute or so in a heavy zerg. It is just as effective as an OS but much more rewarding.
I tend to totally forget I have an OS at hand. I am too busy flying or dropping on towers and defending backhacks or what not. I have not used my OS in some time now, I can't even remember the last time I used my EMP in a tactical situation and not accidentally. The OS is a great reward for achieving CR 5 and I do not see it leaving anytime soon.
And remember it has a 3.5 hour reuse timer and 3.5 hours, is a HUGE amount of time in a game like Planetside.

The timer is only 3 hours and in Future Crew, we all use our OSes atleast once a day. Even in red alerts, we find a way to push out with all of us and cover one or more of our guys while they OS. Like yesterday at Leza. We were red alerted, they had taken gen down and hacked (we had a lot of folks in the base) and we pushed back and took the base (not just FC, but the VS as well) We were still pinned down in the base, but we got 3 of our cr5s outside who then OS and cleared the CY and the BD, at which point we pushed out, and eventually took the tower. So no, I'm not overestimating their power, I am assessing them at the value of being properly used.
