Well, I saw it, first showing here in backwards Maine where the theaters.. well they suck okay?

That being said, I will start straight off by stating, this is NOT the book come to life. If you were expecting a faithful Book to film adaptation, you will HATE this movie.

But, as even Mr. Adams pointed out prior to his untimely death in 2001, every iteration of the Guide is a new one. The basic story is there, the actual "how it happens" often changes.

This is soooo very true of the movie. Yes, there are some very "word by word" moments that will make fans of the series smile. But there are a whole slew of new portions that you just.. won't find in the books.

Is this bad, hell no. It rocks. I completely enjoyed this movie. It was funny, off the wall, VERY British and well the spirit of the book and Mr. Adams is through and through felt from start to finish.

If you are a fan of Monty Python type humor, you will really like this movie. If Monty Python makes you gag, go see something else.

For me, the two biggest challenges were Mos Def as Ford (which he pulled of PERFECTLY) and Sam Rockwell as the Big Z. I, as a kid pictured Zaphod played by Mel Brooks, so this took some getting used too. In the end he did a decent job, but I feel he was a bit over the top with the role. But still a good performance none the less.

Final score: 85%

Yes, trust me, if you see it, you will understand what I mean. Very little in the way of American humor is here, it's very dry wit humor. Very "Hitchhikers Guide" humor.

There is one line Auther makes "Let me handle it, I am British, we know how to que!"

Classic.

This is easily one of the funniest movies Ive ever seen. 2nd to Team America.
Some of it is stupid but most of it, you cant stop laughing.

I thought it needed more content. The trailers showed most of the action, which is always disappointing.

It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't a dissapointment, which is always good. It also really helps to have read the books to get some of the smallers things (bring a towel).
But hey, it wasn't as bad as Aliens Versus Predator.

I love the book...father gave it to me when I was 15 and I read it...INCREDIBLE...Of course the movie never adds up to the book but i'm hoping it'll be good because I really want to see it.

Just got back from seeing it. I read Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy and Restaurant at the End of the Universe so as always the movie couldn't quite hold up against the books. However, they got many of the best bits of Hitchikers Guide into the movie so all and all it was pretty good. Its strangely reassuring that Douglas Adams helped make the movie as well.

It was pretty damn funny too, myself and many members of the audience were laughing out loud. I was happy to see one of my favorite parts of the book with the whale and the bowl of petunias made it into the movie as well, I always got a kick out of that.

All in all, its definately a movie worth seeing. The way it ended it seems almost like they're going to do a Restaurant at the End of the Universe sequel. The old Restaurant movie was pretty good, I wonder if indeed they'll make a new one and hopefully it'll be as good as Hitchikers.

apparently if you have read the books, expecially the first one, then the movie will be a RIOT! I went to see it with my friends, and they luaghed their asses off, I didnt reall see what was funny but they said it had a shitload of parodies in it from the books

The movie also doesnt really follow any plotline.. it just kind've jumps around oddly, except for the beggining and end.

Ah but the books jumped around too, it was part of what was so funny about them.

i never thought of zephod as an american, i think that from an american point of view, Zaphod will seem odd and dodgy, but for brit's it'll be perfect, and an american actor playing an american in a british point of view, well that must take alot to understand...

i can't wait to see the film, it's odd how a book like this was adopted by the internet, i havn't read of any ninjas, hackers, or elves in the books...

Looks like an interesting movie, but I passed it up to check out Kingdom of Heaven. I love movies that take place in those times, swords, shields, mass carnage. Can't go wrong.
