lets say your in a galaxy, and you jump out some how, while in flight, is there some kind of parachute, can you even get out while in flight, or would you fall to the ground and hit the ground like a sack of patatoes?

Kinetic dampeners in your boots slow your decent and weaken tthe damafge on impanct. Old knowledge

Kinetic dampeners kick in. They slow down your descent and you hit the ground taking no damage. I think there is a certain altitude where they won't fire if you are below it. Really close to the ground wont turn on the dampeners, but it won't hurt you that bad to jump 12 feet out of a plane.
EDIT: Dang you Sputty!

I'm pretty sure that you will take damage.

It actually depends on the height you jump out of actually. Basically if you are too low to the ground, the kinetic dampeners can't kick in fast enough to dampen the fall. It is the same as if you jump out of a plane too low for your parachute to open in time.

Do you have the dampeners from the beginner or do you need a cert for them? p.s. pay homage to arilift for my awsome splintercell style sig

I don't believe you need a cert to use the kinetic boots.

But if you can jump out and not take damage, whats the point in landing (other than when peoples getting in). It would really take out some of the fun in being a good pilot.

Everybody can use Kinetic dampeners, which act like a parachute
No dmg from any height they can activate from (jumping height will still hurt)
No cert for um, they just are

You pilot a Galaxy full of troops past a base of turrets, a roving Skeeter/Reaver defense, and a line of AA MAXes. Tell me if it's easy. :D

It could be cool to have high altitiude drops for a Galaxy.

Raccoon, that's what they are. I think, so don't quote me on this, that the higher you are, the better the dampeners work. All jumps from certain height up don't hurt you. But, if you are a mile above a base I don't see how you can drop anyone effectively. I have an idea. The higher you jump, the more you slow down. So if you jump from a mile up, your squad will be target practice.

that sucks for the HALO (high Altitude, low opening) fans... :(
I think if the dempeners open before hitting the ground is ok. If the look is kind of like in Minority report, it will look sweet ;)
Imo, the whole 'flying' aspect of PS has been left out or simplifed a little too much, but that is understandable for a large scale game like this one.
And for sure, there will be a lot of new modifications to be done through patchs and the likes.
I hope they make everything more complexe so that everyone can find more expertise in their field of interest towards this game! All in due time of course!

Well, we don't actually know how high you can go. I bet it's not really that high at all, because then you'd be able to easily avoid fire from the ground. However, I guess we'll have to wait and see...

I wonder if it is self-activating, or you acticate them yourself, or perhaps both (an option you would choose if you want it to auto-activate or not)

I read before that they're automatic, so you don't have an option on when to flip them on.

Galaxies also hold buggies or light tanks....they arnt equiped with kenetic dampeners. You will still need to land.

Keep in mind that parachuting in real life has always had deadly consequences. Slow, controlled decent=easy target. I am guessing kinetic dampeners are the same way. Bailing out works, but landing is safer for the passengers.
Also there was no indication of a maximum height, just a minimum.
Kinetic dampeners are automatic.
Galaxy pilots STILL have to get the passengers to where they need to go, that won't always be easy.
Also Galaxies can be used as a light gun-boat, so there is other uses for a Galaxy pilot.

I thought that they would activate just before you hit the ground
