The graphics are beautiful. Which also means high minimum specs. Have they released specs yet?

After several disappointing major releases, I am now immune to hype. I'll judge this game when I play it.

Looks like an RPG with an FPS arena. Not interested personally, I want to kill people not run quests and stuff. FPS and PVE don't mix to me, if I want to PVE with a gun I will load up Doom 3 or Quake

QFT. I no longer get excited about games. I've suffered too much pain and anguish in my life due to hype over a game that turned out to be shitty. I'll wait until it comes out before I start making room on my hard drive.

1. That post was made at 404 proving once and for all electro, you are lame.

2. I have never hyped over a game excluding day of defeat source. And thats ONLY because it was a new engine that the game was getting from an old one so I knew what it was going to be. Just prettyer.

"the ever-elusive MMO/FPS. A few have tried it, to some degree (Planetside, Neocron), but most will agree that no one has gotten it quite right. "

Hmmmm looks like they just told us PS kinda sucked. I am looking foward to this game if it gets good reviews. Till then WoW seems like the only MMO out there.

PS is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE game, with bad code(graphics and net code), bad Dev support, and some wierd ballance.

The only reason anyone plays it is it's the only game of it's kind, and that kind of gameplay rocks.

Looks like I might have to shift my comp into "bend over" position :ugh:

Although I can see myself spending as much time in this game as I did Planetside back in the day.

Give PS some credit, it had amazing graphics for when it first was developed.

Everytime PlanetSide is talked about, it's talked about as a failure.

I hardly think its a failure, its the first one to attempt what they did and if other game companies dont try and learn from it they are stupid.

Electrofreak

There were failures in its development and implementation, but the game isn't a failure. It's still generating revenue for Sony and actually is picking up more players. I can think of plenty other MMOs what made out a lot worse.

I say I got 3 friends to play PS on my account and they say they love it.

Think of PS as the first Locomotive Steam Engine.....crapy as hell, but it pulled its lumber for 10 so miles.

Huxley will be the Rocket, fast....ass....fuck.

My opinion. I think the game looks great, like a Halo or something. Like a single player game. Which is my point, I don't think it will last in the MMO world.

I will buy the game regardless of that....just for starters

PlanetSide is nowhere near a failure, nor was it. Sure, it didn't size up to people's expectations, but I was satisfied-- for a while-- with the gameplay. Screw graphics and physics, PlanetSide offered (and still offers) an MMOFPS huge-battle "feel" that no other game can currently come to.

Then they killed it with BFRs but that's a different story....

Anyway: On to Huxley.

You gain experience, mainly, from playing through PvE content -- the various quests or tasks available to you as a member of your faction. Apart from the sort of gratification that's oh-so-important in MMOs, levels give you access to actual skills: things like the ability to double-jump, to equip better armor and weapons, and the like.

I don't like this idea at all. The idea of requiring a player to do both PvE *and* PvP to advance a character does not appeal to me. I want to use the damn weapons when I install the game, if not, I'd be playing WoW.

Ultimately, though, Huxley is an FPS above all. It's much less about your character's game-given abilities and more about your reflexes and acumen for strategy. "High level in Huxley doesn't mean increased physical strength or speed," Kang said. "It means being able to use better weapons and armor."

One of the reasons PlanetSide (at least initially, for you doubters) rocked was because you could jump in, certify in Heavy Assault, and you were blowing away things with rocket launchers, grenade projectors, and things that go "boom!" Given, you couldn't certify in a lot at BR2 or 3, but you could still pick anything. Huxley promises to be different. It will be interesting to see what "better weapons" are availible at higher levels. Some of the screenshots/concept art of the article show the same guns, except there are different classes of the same gun, the higher classes being "tricked out" with things such as optical sights. (Think: GI Joe in the sandbox with an M16 versus Delta Force with an M4A1 with silencer, front grip, reflex sight, laser, etc...) If it's like that, where higher classes get better versions of the same guns and a few new ones, then the system could well work. But if the weapon disparity was anywhere near WoW's (to use an extreme, and bad, example) then it would be horrendous.

But you can still get heavy waepons right away, you just have to go to a trade market and find someone willing to recruit you.

I tend to agree with Aztec on this one, if its going to be an MMOFPS I want full PVP none of this PVE leveling shit.

I'd go back to the devil that is WoW if I want to PVE or play Quake offline.

Real life prevents me from playing and benefitting from PVE (I've played WoW since Beta and I have a lvl 37 Warrior and a 29 Priest) weapons, gear and goodies.

The beauty of Planetside for me, as previously mentioned, was just jumping in for an hour or so a night with your buddies and having at it.

As most of you know an hour does not cut it when it comes to leveling characters.

I hated WoW because quite simply I couldn't game with my buddies that had more time to play the game. A separation occured.

I'll be getting Huxley, though, I can see getting very frustrated when running into a squad with leeter gear and annihilating me based on the fact they logged far more hours than me.

As far as the Epic scale, jump in and play stuff goes, BF2 does it for me at the moment, 32 on 32 on a 64 player sized map is pleanty good for me.

I don't see how 100lpayers in Huxley is going to be that much better.

You know what would be awesome, Planetside(weapons, vechs, contients, bases, # of people ect.) with BF2's engine(physics, and an update to weapons damage/penatration that make them Kill people instead of hurting people untill they die).
