So what is everyone up to for the weekend, anything exciting?
Myself, well nothing really.. the weekend is going to be hosed by about a foot of snow :(
The nor'easter we've been talking about for the weekend now looks inevitable. How bad will it be? It will be one of the biggest snows of the season, though I don't think it will eclipse the December 9th thundersnow event for areas northwest of Boston.
Click on the SPECIAL map for my snowfall potential map. It's not a firm forecast yet, since there's still some minor uncertainty in the storm track. It's likely the track will be to the southeast of Nantucket--far enough offshore that we probably will be all snow across everywhere except possibly the Outer Cape & Nantucket. The most moisture will be over the Cape, Islands & Southeast Mass. The least moisture will be over Northwest Mass & Northern New England. For now, it's a good bet for 8-14" snowfall totals across much of the area...including Boston and Natick and Worcester and Providence and Plymouth.
Timing of the storm looks like the day Saturday will be fine, but Saturday night into Sunday, we'll be dealing with heavy, wind-driven snow. There's the possibility of near-blizzard conditions through the early morning hours of Sunday. Snowfall rates could reach 3" per hour! Winds could gust to 40-60 mph. Visibilities could drop to near zero. Snow lovers will love it; others will moan and grown.
