I do not hunt but I have taken my hunter's safety course and based on what ive read. In the interest of safety, I think that they are both somewhat at fault, Whittington split from the party without announcing it, and Cheney was not aware that whittington was beyond his target. But it ultimately the blame falls upon the triggerman.
That has to sting like a son of a bitch, he is extremely lucky that one of those pellets did not hit him in the eye.
I cannot wait for the daily show to come on.

Accidently shooting someone should be enough grounds for stupidity that Cheney shouldn't be helping run our country. I can't stand the dude, I've always said he's a moron, and this just helps prove it.

Correct me if im wrong but I dont think the VP doesnt do alot in the big picture. He presides over senate meetings, does PR for the president and takes over just incase the SHTF.

The VP is VERY important in the senate right now, votes are very close and sometimes are tieing he casts the decision.
Also he's the leader of the Project for the New American Century, he's very very important to the NeoCons policy.

If you havnt gone quail hunting you shouldnt be calling him a moron, or an idiot. Hunting quail is like tracking a target in a video game. Sometimes you get tunnel vision and folow the target behind objects and pull the trigger anyways. It just so happened this guy was in the way.

The thing is if your a halfway decent hunter you know you need to pay attention to stuff going around you, because you might just end up shooting someone.
Yes I hunt, or did, haven't gone out in a while now.
Tunnel vision is not an excuse to run someone over with a car, nor is it when you shoot someone. Cheney is not a moron or an idiot, but I do think he has a disreguard for consequences, and this kind of negligence is to be expected from him IMO.

I wasnt going to reply to Peace's post because I thought he was being sarcastic, but Rob hit the nail right on the head.
I do not think the VP is an idiot, but it must be said. That hunting is NOT a video game, and a good hunter should never get tunnel vision, even in the heat of the moment. If you are so focused on your target that you become neglegent then you have a serious problem. It is up to responsible gun owners to make sure these mistakes do not happen. Whether they be hunters, marksmen, collectors, or protecting their home.

I've been hunting with a shotgun, I've taken the safety courses, and won a NYS championship with a bow, and I'm saying Cheney is a moron. Millions of other hunters get through hunting trips without shooting eachother every day.
My point is, Cheney has proven himself an idiot in the political arena, and can't even go hunting without shooting someone. Perhaps part of the blame was the stupid lawyer not announcing himself, but every good hunting group knows to keep track of one another regardless.
Edit- Sorry to rip on your post Peace, but have you shot anyone accidently? Is it excusable for our Vice President to do it? No. :p

You've got to be kidding me, he's done a very large portion of what he's wanted to do. The whole neocon agenda is Cheney's brainchild. You don't like the agenda, nor do I, but an Idiot in the political Arena doesn't have success like Cheney's.
Now as far as hunting goes, that was quite dumb, and blame always resides with the shooter, unless someone deliberatly jumped out in front of you when you pulled the trigger. It's not the wounded mans fault for sure! I understand that he was acctualy standing behind Cheney(at a distance). You plain just don't shoot unless you knwo FOR SURE that people aren't down range, that is if your a decent hunter

Say what you will, but Cheney has proven time and time again that he pays little attention to consequence, which in my opinion, is more or less the definition of an idiot.

Ok you mean it in the sence that you don't agree with his political views: His policy is Idiotic. That's fine I agree.
I thought you ment he was an idiot at the political "game". And that is obviously not true, given Iraq(especialy with reguard to Halliburton).
Electrofreak

Obviously he knew how to play the political game (or manipulate people who could play it for him) to be where he is today. I just think he's been more of a hinderance (I could say so much more) than an asset to this nation.
To be honest, I think politics is mostly about money, influence, manipulation, and connections. Brains has little to do with it, and I think Cheney is a great example. (Bush wins runner-up).

They could make him go hunting with the president. It would have to be a payback in one way or another. Especially if the drinking rumors are true. Someone gets shot or they wish they had!

It's pretty clear it was an accident, IMO. You don't send the engineer to the courthouse for making an error in an aircraft design. I'm pretty sure Cheney didn't mean to hurt anybody except the birds, and I doubt charges will be pressed.
Electrofreak
2006-02-15, 05:55 AM
Not meaning to do something is no excuse for doing it. Shooting somebody with a gun is a pretty big "oops". Sure I doubt they'll charge him with anything, but if carelessness and stupidity were a crime he'd be facing a life sentence.

Not sure why everyone in the media is making a big deal about him delaying a public appearance about it. People accidentally injure other people every day and don't need to make a public statement, why does he have to say anything to anyone, we already know it happened.

Yea but when the Vice Pres accidently shoots someone it's a bit different  He should have at least notified the white house sooner even if not the public.
Then again - I agree they are going a bit to overboard now with the "OMGZ HE TOLD NOBODY!!"
Why isn't anybody worried about the poor Quails? :(
