Loren Velthamp of Chanhassen, Minnesota, said he grabbed the phone and called 911 when he realized a fire has started in his home. "I called 911 using Vonage broadband and they put us on hold," Velthamp told KSTP-TV in Minneapolis. ***8220;Unbelievable***8230; your house is burning down, and you're put on hold by Vonage.***8221;
Fire department officials say that by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, the fire had become a five-alarm blaze. No one was injured, but they described the dwelling as a total loss.Talk about Vonownage.

Another reason not listed there that I basically have to deal with ALL DAMN DAY.
VOIP phone service is not compatible with a telephone-line based security system like our typical ADT system. So many of our customers upgrade to digital phone and their alarm stops working. It'll still alarm but it won't send us any signals, so while you go on vacation and someone breaks into your house / business, all he has to do is kill the alarm and take his time robbing you blind. Or, if your house bursts into flames, the detectors will sound... but no fire department will come.
The kicker? We charge em $199 to get a cellular alarm system installed, and charge them an extra $5 a month to monitor it. The irony is most people do it to save money.
Last but not least, here's the final bit of irony. The CEO of ADT left the company last month for a position at VONAGE.

I don't like the whole idea of Internet Phones. Sure it sounds great on paper but if it ain't broke don't fix it. There's nothing wrong with land line phones it's been working for many many years.

land lines suck. I can't justify paying for one when I have a mobile phone.

Well cell phones are different - I would never substitue a landline with an IP phone.

Of course they are because they use the internweb. But when your house burns down or someone in the house collapses and you get put on hold thats a problem. :lol:
On a sidenote there are some Internet Providers that are starting to block Vonage and other VOIP services because they arent the one's making the cash. (ISP's)
The cable company here has a deal I think with Vonage. The cable company would subcontract the company I used to work for to set up thier VOIP which is just Vonage with the cable company's logo and name on it. :rolleyes:

Oh and one other thing. If your power goes out, so does your VOIP service. So if you don't have a cell, good luck contacting the power company to tell them your power is out :p
Cells ftw. That aside, about 10 minutes ago I got my cell bill for this month... $192.00
