A customized Volkswagen SUV entered by Stanford University became the first autonomous vehicle to cross the finish line of a $2 million Pentagon-sponsored race across the rugged Mojave Desert on Saturday without help from a human driver or remote control

Couple months old, but none the less, very cool. There was a special on it on Nova a week or two ago.

Forgot to mention it.

Its a 130 mile course so gas probably was not a factor....unless it went on for a few days.

I'd heard that this race was going to be done, kinda cool that it actually got completed.

I'm a little dissapointed they were given a course though... I thought the vehicle AIs would have to figure out the route by themselves.

It was a set destination, get from point A to point B.

However in order to qualify they had to navigate through a set course with barrels and whatnot.
