Pshaw...that's nothing.
What I want them to work on is the down right deception that occurs on a regular basis.
I get myspace invites from hotties that turn out to be solicitors!
Like, I'll go to my site and see I have an email from a hottie. They all like send me a nice email message saying they've stared at my picture for, like, the last 20 minutes and they just had to write me on their friends computer because I'm sooo hotT.
So I go there and come to find out that they are selling tupperware or some shit. Who falls for that crap?
FFS! The humanity!
I now have 5 matching sets of tupperware - I've been promised to be emailed and instant messaged daily when the IM comes back up and running.

Maybe the internet SHOULD get regulated a Little bit. What if the government made it so that you had to get online with your REAL personal data. Now, theres no way you or me could see this, but software on sites like Myspace would watch convos and watch to see if someone isnt being truthful in their profiles.
No actions are taken against false profiles unless there are very diffrent data from the profile and the stored personal data. If that happens the account gets flagged.
Chat rooms, mail, and all that fun stuff sent by minors to or from these accounts are scanned. Key words and all that.
This might not even be the government doing it. Maybe it can be THROUGH the government. Like signing up to places like my space require that you put in your SS number. The SS number is tied to your info. My space the company acctualy watches for the crap... I know its regulation of the internet, but really nothing would change unless you tried to lie to a 12 year old girl

I'm all for reducing the risks Peace but isn't it a bit drastic? That's almost like what Bush did with the phone lines...
If those sites can see such information then so can other sites and that leads to massive invasion of privacy...

Indeed. I have not all the answers young one.
It would take a while to balance it to make sure that shit didnt happen.

To be honest, I think the only thing that should be enforced should be good parenting. If the kid is dumb enough to meet any random person on the net... then there's something to be said about the parents.
Don't get me wrong, I met alot of people from online communities... but you know, I never got raped or anything (sadly... most of the people I meet are girls... would be fun to get raped.)

Using Social Security numbers to indentify people when they sign up for stuff on the internet could get ugly fast.

Here's an idea: go outside and meet people, as opposed to staring at your moniter at meeting them.
Sure its good for old friends and the like, but who wants to meet a relatively faceless person on the internet?

Aye the answer here is good smart parenting.
Most parents are lazy or ignorant nowdays.

I find it really quite scary how much responsibility parents don't want to take. It makes me amazingly frustrated hearing about things that parents blame others for.

Well for some people it's really hard. Not everyone can just go down to the (gay?) bar and pick up a ride for the evening.

Some of these kids are really young and posting all sorts of personal information on MySpace and their parents are so ignorant and lazy that they dont really care to figure out what is going on with their kids just so long as they arent out drinking. That's great and all but you really need to know what your kids are doing on their computers dammit.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir. But I don't see how the possibility of being hit on my a dirty 40 year old man makes it easier.

Honestly, I meet about three people I know online per year at most... and most of the time it's accidents or they know one of my friend who knows one of my friends... etc. etc.
If you meet everyone exclusivly on the net... end it right now because your life is gonna be really boring.

Simple, just be smart about it and verify that they are who they say they are before going out to meet them.
Hamma, you're going to make a great daddy someday.
Now, lets make some babies... :D
