Ten-Hut! ...Or what ever that means.

Okay, well hello. I'm Ruhanga, one of the millions billions reservists, which you all hate and love. Well, I'm a old ( ) FPS player, but Planetide hit me confused, everything just seemed so weird and I have too many options that I get confused.

I was interested to become somekind of "Transporter-Jack" who takes the troopers to the front line, but I have heard you must have some kind of leet skillz to drive a car...errr...

So yeah, I have no idea what I should do. I tried to run behind one of those big armour guys, mech looking things, but didn't help. I could find any action.

Help?

You don't need any l33t skills to drive. You just need the cert for what vehical you want to drive.

If you want to carry troops you need Ground Support or Air Support, those are certifications, lol. Public Galaxys aren't very popular, neither is any type of public ground transport. You'll really only use those with a group of friends or squad. The Lodestar is always needed, you just sit there though :/ letting people repair/rearm.

You need to join an outfit, more peopel they have the more you can carry around. ;)

Hey Rehunga,

Welcome to Planetside, the game which has provided me with more enjoyment than any other. It's always a pleasure to see more people taking an interest in the game. I'll address the last item in your email first.

"I couldn't find any action."

This is the one of the bigger problems new folks can face in Planetside, so don't feel alone. Unfortunately, using the instant action feature is often not the best way to take you into combat (good and/or meaningful combat at least). Whenever you log in game, the best thing to do is hit 'm' to bring up your map, then tap the 'g' key to bring up the global map. From the global map you can assess where the combat is taking place. Do this by noting where hotspots are. Hotspots look like small explosions on the map. Once you see a continent where potential combat is, plan on how you are going to get there. This is where you want a vehicle certification. Even if you are driving the slowest vehicle out there, any vehicle is faster than trying to run on foot. Also, you can go to a continent using the HART shuttle located in the sanctuary, but keep in mind you can only use the HART shuttle if the continent is not completely locked by an opposing army. A continent is considered 'locked' when all bases are completely under the control of an OPPOSING empire. Locked continents can still be accessed of course, but you have to get there via a friendly linked waygate. As far as finding combat when you reach the continent of your choice, use the 'm' key to bring up your map and you can locate hotspots on the continent. Take note of which bases are team colours and then travel the lattice links (yellow connecting lines between bases) to an opposing base. Try to take note of CR5 chat to determine where the armies are being directed. Hopefully, what I've discussed here makes it easier for you to find combat. Let me know how it works out here in this forum and if you still have isssues I or someone else can try to respond.

Now for the other item in your post- "I was interested to become some kind of "Transporter-Jack" who takes the troopers to the front line, but I have heard you must have some kind of leet skillz to drive a car."

You don't have to be elite to drive a vehicle and besides, you can't become an elite driver unless you start out as a novice driver. You want to drive vehicles, drive vehicles. Part of the beauty of this game is you can mold your character into whatever niche you please, or make him jack-of-all-trades. I don't know if you'll actually be able to fill the niche you appear to wish to fill in this game though. An individual wishing to specialize in troop transportation will have to be affiliated with a large outfit. Reason being is most people in game are not going to take random transport from an unknown player. If it's a chance to gun a tank or other assault vehicle, they may, but odds are they won't climb into your Galaxy, Deliverer, or Sunderer (traditional transport vehicles). An outfit will have the manpower, organization, training, and hopefully the leadership necessary to know when/where/how to implement such vehicles. I've probably just rambled much. Bottom line is this, if you wish to do the transport thing, try to find a sizable and organized outfit to join. If you don't feel ready for an outfit and want to feel out the game some more, continue on solo, and try out as many different certs as you can until you find something you enjoy. Often times, folks will start playing the game with the intent to fill a certain character role and find they enjoy a different aspect of the game altogether. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replys.

An outfit huh? How do you get into those?

I think you have to ask outfit members with recruiting capability to send you an outfit invite.

If you're playing NC on Emerald, the NC Gunslingers will take anyone of any skill level-hell, I was a newbie when I helped form the outfit. (It's the reason why I have Officer rank instead of something lower.) I probably have permission to send invites, so if you are indeed an NC reservist, maybe we can show you the ropes.

(I don't lead the outfit, but outfit leader kophen has put me in charge of outfit-related stuff around PSU since he won't frequent PSU that much. I just pointed out PSU to him so that we could have an outfit DB entry.)

As for other Empires...well, I'm not really sure what to suggest, given that I mostly play NC. GotR of the VS looks like a good one. Not sure what to suggest for TR, but a certain outfit names after mythical reptiles and wild canines might be good if you want to fight alongside some of the PSU admins...

The outfit has sites on My PlanetSide (http://myplanetside.station.sony.com/outfit.jsp?outfitId=18662&worldId=15) and on PSU's Outfit Database (http://www.planetside-universe.com/ps/odb.php?odb_id=893). It's kind of a small outfit; I hear it was formed because an outfit by the name of -PAW- or something like that had a leader who forgot to transfer leadership before quitting PS.

As far as me recruiting you-I apologize for this, but the only PC with a halfway-decent chance of running PS just won't boot into Windows XP anymore-something about an "Ntfs.sys" file(presumably something to do with the file system)being corrupt. It won't let me use the Recovery Console on the OS disc, either. Therefore, don't expect me to hop onto PS in a few days.

Until then, you'll have to find another outfit member to get recruited. kophen/littlekophen and YerMommy/YerDaddy(they use 2 NC characters; apparently, one's for gruntwork and one's for vehicles)tend to be on fairly frequently-if you do meet them, make sure to tell them that I sent you from PSU...
