ESPN Presents the "US Paintball Championships" Sanctioned by the NPPL

ESPN has launched the air dates for the first series of the "US Paintball Championships" sanctioned by the NPPL. The original airings are Monday nights at 10:00 pm EST/ 7:00 pm PST starting Monday April 10 and continuing every Monday through May 29 on ESPN2. ESPN is currently editing the show's footage, which was filmed during last month's 2005 NPPL Super 7 World Series Commander's Cup in Miami. There are 8 different shows, each one hour in length.

Show 1: April 10
Show 2: April 17
Show 3: April 24
Show 4: May 1
Show 5: May 8
Show 6: May 15
Show 7: May 22
Show 8: May 29

Second show is tonight. the first show recorded a .44 rating, which basically means that around 440,000 people tuned in to watch it. That is the highest ranking paintball has ever had a tv. Hopefully it will grow. I would love to see a rating of 1. It airs speedball, not woodsball. So, if you like speedball, definately tune in and watch it. They did a great job with it.

A recap from the first episode (real quick):
the 8 pro teams playing in the quarter finals are:
San Diego Dynasty
Sacramento XSV
Portland Naughty Dogs
New England Hurricanes
London Tigers
Orange County Bushwackers
Chicago Evil
Stockholm Joy Division

First Matches Were: (winners in bold)
San Diego Dynasty vs. Orange County Bushwackers
Stockholm Joy Division vs. Sacamento XSV
New England Hurricanes vs. London Tigers
Portland Naughty Dogs vs. Chicago Evil

SECOND EPISODE:
San Diego Dynasty took on London Tigers and absolutely dominated them! But that was a given because Dynasty (at the time this event took place) was the #1 team in the world.

Sacramento XSV took on Chicago Evil. XSV was ranked #2 in the world. No one saw the upset coming. The games ended up going into Sudden Death. A sudden death is a 1v1. Time limit is 3 minutes. If there is no one shot out after three minutes, then another two people are chosen. Well this sudden death lasted all of 6-7 seconds, with the Chicago Evil player blasting Jon Richardson, from XSV, right in the face.

Portland Naughty Dogs took on New England Hurricanes. Naughty Dogs were heavily favored to win. Yet another major upset was on hand. New England Hurricanes, a mid ranked team, out of the 18 pro's teams in NPPL, dominated 3rd ranked Naughty Dogs, and prevailing with the win.

As far as the other two teams go, I'm not sure who won.

TUNE INTO THE 3RD EPISODE NEXT WEEK ON THE 24TH!!!!

What 2v1 are you talking about? if it is the sudden death, than it can't be. Sudden death is a 1v1 only.

Dynasty was rocking last year. Too bad Ollie Lang dropped them like a whore with STDs to play for LA Iron Men now, hey gotta go where the money is. But hell, now Dynasty can show everyone that Ollie wasn't carrying them on his back.

I'm more interested in seeing how the Oakland Assassins and Infamous team merger works out. With all the great players on Infamous and Bob Long's Coaching from the Assassins, it's going to be a hell of a team(s).

I loved XSV, their team needs some work, its not as solid as it should be and they have sporadic moments of suck. Other than that they are a good team that could go on to be the best.

in 2005, assassin's did better then infamous. They have great talent. What sucks is that infamous got picked apart, losing both Chris Lasoya, and Rusty Glaze. Even worse was that Avalanche got completely picked apart. XSV has been taking all the best players from all the teams. Avalanche lost one of the best fronts in paintball, to XSV. Takemoto for the win!

And then Avalanche turned around and took a lot from Doc's Raiders :p

dynasty will not do as well as you would hope them to do. After the first two events, and two horrible showings by Dynasty, it may seem to be that ollie lang was a lot of that team. I hope that I am wrong, though.

My favorite team is Portland Naughty dogs. They are one of the most honest teams, but always fail when it comes to winning :(... Rocky Knuth is one of my favorite players. He is incredible at the sport.

I know not many people know of this team, but Tippmann Effect (PSP team) are all from western NY. Based out of NVP paintball in Rochester. electrofreak may know of this place. They are an incredible team. Buddy Baur is coaching them. in 2005, they took 3rd overall in Division III Xball. The core players for Tippmann effect just so happen to be Team Rhythm, who Buddy Baur coached before they became Tippmann Effect (PSP).

Yeah I know about pbnation. I lurk the forums from time to time. The only reason I never get too involved in paintball forums is there seems to many annoying 14 year old fanboys that don't know shit but love to post how cool they are on the internet.

Myself, I am a Macdev Cyborg type guy. I have a '04 Gen2 Cyborg, and it has never treated me wrong.

I've tested all the trixes out there and the only one good, in my eyes, is the DM6. they did some major improving on it. I liked the Gen-E trix, but it was just too heavy.

this summer, I am selling my '04 (gonna miss her :( ), but I am buying the '06 borg. It is such a beauty. If I stayed on Lacolle Legacy, i'd be shooting them already, and have my own anno... oh well :-/

I have sorta fell out of the equipment community.... Kinda bothers me. DM6 and the Angel 06 Look exactly the same to me. Bothers me.

And yes the Gen-Es like the one me and Ivan own are VERY heavy, but Im a strong guy. I hold that thing like a pocket knife with no problem. I also use a smaller hopper size than most, opting for a 100 ball Q Loader mounted under the barrel. It cuts the guns profile WAY down and loads the balls faster than anything I have found and quieter too.

At this point in paintball, I opt for a Halo B, or Empire B. Yeah the Qloader is faster, but who can actually hit 20bps? VERY few people. It may cut down on the profile, but in speedball, 100 balls isn't enough. I use a Halo B, and absolutely love it, even if it is a battery hog :-/ . If you guys are in New York during the summer time, you should come check out the NYPS. I will be at every event. Would be cool to meet up with some of you guys.

June 3rd - First Prize Paintball, Albany, NY
July 1st - Paintball Quest, Sodus, NY

August 26th - Fury Paintball, Elbridge, NY

I saw some of this, really cool stuff, but the camera angles don't give a really uber good view of the gunfights. It's always the shot of one guy in "The Snake" shooting at/getting shot by someone off camera to the diagonal upper-left. The fights are good, though.

Kyonye
2006-04-25, 08:30 AM
Although I feel the camera angles, they have, are good, I think they could have more for the Dorito side. But then again, most of the good stuff happens near the snake. To me, and many others, the snake is the most important bunker, on the field, to control. If you have someone who knows how to play the snake well, you will probably take the game. Of course it is possible to lose with someone in the snake, as it was seen last night, but you definately have the advantage.

There is always room for improvement, but this is the best coverage paintball has ever had.

20 BPS? I can ramp that up on a good rope. Especialy if my gun is hot. If my gun is hot that day *that being Im feeling comfortable and doing really good* I can really get a rope going sometimes 21... Trix is able to fire raw 28.6... not that it matters. Its the accuracy that counts. The Q loader is lighter, quieter and faster to reload than a Halo. That Im a fast agressive front player makes it that much better with the small profile. 100 balls is enough. You just need to be little more choosy with your shots. Im a flanking bunkering kind of guy. I shoot people out of their bunkers because they dont know where I am. My gun has its advantagous small profile but disadvantagous low amount of paint before reload in a slug match (my word for gunfight).

I made my gun how it is for crawling, firing in wierd positions, Firing EVERY shot when running full speed (something other hopers cant do) and fast reloading. I reload in about 8 seconds. It takes about 16 - 20 to open a hopper and drop a pod in. The gun supliments my play style. I do not supliment the gun. Fast, accurate, able to fire on the go. That is the matrix.

Ill let my back players sling paint down the lanes, thats not what a forward player does. I don t need 800 paintballs, I just need the 500 in 5 Q Pods. (Its more like 550 with the balls in the tube. Also, the freakish look of my gun draws some onlookers. No ones ever seen a Qloader on a trix before. Makes my matrix special.

20 BPS? I can ramp that up on a good rope.

There is the only thing that makes it possible. ramping, and full auto, and rebound. Most places only allow Semi-auto unlimited (which it is hard to max out a Halo B, Empire B, etc.). If you play the big leagues, Ramping is capped at 15bps. I'm running xball lite in the NYPS, and we only allow 15bps. PSP is capped at 15bps, and NPPL is Semi-auto unlimited only. you ramping at 20bps will only happen at very few locations.

Somewhat. It's really mainly the Xball leagues that have done it. Although I know the CFOA (Carolina's Field Owners Association) went with the 15 ball limit as well. Seeing as my NYPS runs Xball lite, and we allow ramping, we use the 15bps limit, even if someone is shooting semi-auto.

Markers have gotten to the point where these companies will start focusing on Efficiency, and Accuracy, etc. over pure speed. I am fine with that, though. I would rather a paintball marker only capable of shooting 15bps, with incredible accuracy over one that has crappy accuracy and shoots 25bps. To me accuracy is more important than how fast your marker shoots (of course there is a minimum bps rate I look at, which is around 13-15). Also, it allows you to send people to the dead box using less paint, thus saving a ton of money. I live right outside New York City, and it is very expensive to play, most of the time. I know that my Cyborg can shoot 30bps, but it's the accuracy and efficiency of the marker that brought me want one, and to be sponsored by them.

Ivan
2006-04-26, 03:38 PM
The paintball industry is in a "recession" figuratively speaking. There hasn't been many huge advancements in technology in a while. The last big advancement I'd say was the spool valve which started with the original Matrices. Now we see many other companies using spool valves. The other major advancement I'd say was force feed hoppers. Other than those, what major advancement has there been in the last year or two?

Peacemaker
2006-04-26, 10:43 PM
Not much. If they could give me a 10BPS gun that would shoot percisely and accurately at a decent range I would probably drop my trix for it. Letting someone peak into my paint is the only real way to get a hit on them in a gun fight.

Last night's episode was really good. The two best matches were Evil v. Joy and Cane's v. Tigers.

During the Evil v. Joy game, they went into sudden death again, with a 1 on 1. Maximus Lundvquist pulled out the 1 v. 1 win easily over Mark Worrel, seeing as Worrel's marker decided not to work. actually it was his loader I believe. Each episode is only getting better.

Last nights episode 5/22: Winners in bold

Dynasty vs. Bushwackers - Domination on the part of Dynasty..

XSV vs. Naughty Dogs - good match up, XSV took game 1, then ND, then XSV in game 3.

Tigers vs. Joy division - Joy won. I wouldn't expect any different. They are the best European team, competing in the states (but not the overall best team in Europe).

Hurricane's vs. Evil - Cane's prevailed in Game 3. Evil played their heart out. My Cane's won, though. Although they didn't make it to the semi's.

Dynasty had a good run that tournament. they rarely win all their games. yes, they used to win a lot, but never every game. The only team to win every single game, was Evil when they were playing D1 PSP 5man. They won every game, and didn't lose single person on the field. that was pretty insane. The tournament they are showing is NPPL Miami Commander's Cup, November 2005. They were really good all the way through 2005.

Reballs are amazing. My old team (Lacolle Legacy - play in the CXBL) is working on a sponsorship with Mighty Paintball. They make their own type of reball called Mighty ball. It's just as good and will be a little cheaper.

So far this year, XSV has won both NPPL events. As far as PSP goes, Philly American's took the first event, and Russian Legion took the second event. Chi-town PSP is coming up in June. I would be surprised to see a team, who also plays NPPL, win it. I predict American's or Trauma to win this one.
