Awards, Medals, Merits... How? Where? What to do?

Hello everybody!

I'm intending on getting into the Planetside Reserves program as soon as I fix my gaming rig but I think I did the right thing by first getting myself somewhat familiar about all things PS... and one thing I haven't gotten quite clear info on is the Awards, Merits and Medals part of the game...

What kind of Awards, Medals and Merits are there now?

What does one have to do to get them?

Does one gain anything besides a nice color bar when getting an award/medal/merit?

Merits aren't all combat from what I've read so far, there are even some one can get by visiting places (Monoliths?)... are there more non-combat-related merits? I'd like to get as much info on this as possible!! Thanx! :)

I haven't played in quiet a while, so I don't know if they have added a new types of mertis but, there were several type. The most common was the "x" kills with "x" weapon/vehicle. There were also support merits and one called "Exploration" which required you to visit the monolith on all the contients. There was also the one and two year of playing merits. Once you attain a merit you may choose to display it on your shoulderpad, you can have a maximum of three merits displayed at once, not including the active service merit once you attain one.

www.pssyn.com has very good information about merits. Not sure if it's 100% correct but it seems like it.

here's an example.

It takes 100 knife kills to get the Knife Qualification Merit
Once you get this you need to kill 2 people with a knife, without dieing, to get the qualification.

Then it takes an additional 100 knife kills to get Knife Bronze

Then it goes up from there with X amount of kills, Silver, Gold and Platinum.



Theres some interesting ones like Vehicular Transportation Citation, X kills running people over.

Combat Medic, rezzing someone and them getting kills.




Oh and for a kill to count for a merrit they have to be alive for 30 seconds, no camping.

Modified Liberator. Believe it has better Nose-cannon, stronger Anti-Vehicular Bombs, and Afterburners.

Since there seem to be more merits than merit slots, where do I choose which I want to display, when I should attain any?
