I am in the market for a new Cell phone for myself and Jen. We are nearing the end of our shitty nextel contract. I personally like the RAZR and I've heard good and bad things about it.
It doesen't need to do 3000 different functions it just needs to be a phone. But I prefer smaller flip type phones if possible.
Any reccomendations?

The samsung knock-offy thingy of the razr is very nice.
LG phones always seem to be quite nice aswell.

If they still have the Samsung A670 in production, they are very nice phones. I've never had a problem with mine.

I too own a razr. I would suggest getting it with Verizon instead of Singular because Verizon has far better coverage in my experience. However that could just be my area.
But the razr is an excellent phone. I cant think of a single serious complaint.

Coverage is very area specific.
Cingular and sprint are far better in my aread than anything else(sprint better be increadible, thier HQ is here).

The SLVR is pretty nice. I know someone who has one. The screen is really big, but the phone is so thin, it feels a bit fragile, even though I know it isn't.

Hamma, what's your carrier, we can't very well recommend phones that your carrier doesn't support.
If you're using Verizon, I suggest the LG VX8100 or Verizon's "The V" (LG VX9800) phones. Both are EVDO high-speed internet capable (500-700kbs), VCAST capable (Verizon's streaming video/audio service), mp3 player capable, possess fairly large (comparitively) stereo speakers, miniSD compact flash for additional storage, 1.3 megapixel cameras, Bluetooth, speakerphone, etc. These phones easily trump the RAZR in features, in addition to battery life both active and on standby.
The V is essentially the same phone as the VX8100 in features but has a cool side-open clamshell with a QWERTY keyboard inside and a pretty large widescreen display. Snap it shut and it looks like a typical compact cell. I'll be picking one up soon to add to my VX8100. :)
EDIT- Just learned the VX9800 has GPS too... damn... now I really have to get one.

I don't have one - gonna be switching that too. Like I said though I am leaning to Verizon.

oh. my bad, failure to read everything ftl.
I'd definately reccommend Verizon, great signal everywhere you go, and even where you can't get a Verizon signal they've got free roaming. Plus the EVDO high speed connection on the newer phones (like the ones I showed) is pretty damn fast (500-700kbs). I'm probably going to snag "The V" because I like to check my email with my phone, and the QWERTY keyboard makes it a lot easier. I've heard that it's easily manageable 45 WPM on that keyboard. It's also probably a bit better for games, (both phones have 3D graphics engines), cell phone games in general tend to be rather short. Need For Speed Underground was pretty impressive for a cell phone game, but the game subscriptions tend to add up.
Not to mention, with the GPS on The V, I could probably stop getting lost in the city (I'm terrible with directions), as it is I'm paying for Mapquest Mobile on my VX8100.

I have a Nextel for work. It's got GPS and shit on it, and apparently, my boss can locate me via a web application whenever he wants.
I thought that was sort of cool, but it creeped me out, because I have to carry it 24/7. :o

All our techs carry Nextels, but they aren't worth shit. Lousy reception, always has a shitty signal with a lot of noise on the line, I really wish they'd get Verizon phones.

Nextel has good intensions, but really sucky everything else.
I have a Razr and got it for like 70 bucks. Its a great phone. Slow menu though if you are impatient. I've heard that sometimes if you don't take good care the phone (ie, put it in your back pocket) the outside screen will bend outward and stop working.
Cingular>Verizon my opinion. If you want something very simple, just a phone that you don't need all the fancy options, go Cingular. If you want the complex everything, Verizon.

i definitely recommend the razr to anybody who's thinking about it. If mine blew up spontaneously today, i'd buy another one tommorrow.

C2C baby. can to can has the most reliable network ever. Granted the range isn't up to par with some of the bigger companies, it still gets the job done. not to mention all the free upgrades you can do to your phone, from labels to better string to new cans. All for a fraction of the cost that bigger companies will charge you.
and the best part is the cost. outside of buying the phone and the inital network length(string) you have no monthly fees. they only charge you to upgrade to a longer network.
I love LG only because I've spent so much time on learning to hack them so I can make and upload my own ringers for free insted of paying $2 a crapy ringer from verizon. I like Verizon but they try to make you pay for every little thing you want to download to your phone. I've made and uploaded pics/ringers to LG VX4200, VX6000/6100 version 1 and 2, VX7000, and even mp3s and movies to VX8100 verions 1 and 2, and "The V" VX9800 version 1 and 2 all for free. The one and only thing I hate about LG is that they use BREW and not JAVA. So I can't upload free games and apps to the phones.:mad:
Oh and for those of you that have LGs and want to turn it into a vibrator to use on your girl or yourself in some of you sickos out there.....
Press the "OK" button.
Press "0"
The service code is supper secret.... it's "000000" Dumb asses...
Now be careful with what you mess in this service menu cause you can screw your phone up. The next option you want is hidden, press "#"
Now press "2" or highlite and select "Motor Test"
And now you have a vibrator! Enjoy the joygasms.

Agreed. I've got an awesome little app for making 3gps real fast if you want it. I've got my VX8100 packed with music and video. I've got entire seasons of Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop on mine :D
Only problem is, I need to find episodes in english, all mine are in japanese and the subtitles are a little hard to read :p
Yeah which converter do you use? I've been trying to find one I like.

It's an amazing piece of software. Absolutely free (not a trial) and converts just about anything to just about anything else. It self-updates too. I've been using it most recently to convert my movie files to run on my PSP.
Anyone who converts files, audio or video, should have that program on their computer, it rocks.

There don't seem to be many good flip phones out there. I'm prob gonna wait another month or so anyway - things are a bit hectic now to add a phone change into the mix
