How much of an impact do you think stealing will have in the game?

ie, if you have a jacking cert you can steal enemy vehicles and such.

Course i suppose if you dont get out of your vehicle it wont get jacked :p

well since there is no economy, i wouldn't think there will be a huge impact on the player who looses the vehicle. other than having to wait X amount of time before getting another one that is. But i can see it playing a vital role in large combat situations where all of a sudden the other side has a few more buggies/tanks :) Of course, i'm not sure how that will work since the person driving would have to be out of the vehicle like you mentioned.

I'm not even sure how the vehicles spawn. If you have to go to a Terminal, select your Tank, see it spawn, and then drive off (C&C Ren style) I think jacking will not happen that often. On the other hand if there is a parking lot, or airfield, that has vechicles waiting (BF1942 Style) and you can only get in them with the right cert, and your not on the "can't buy" time then I think jacking will be something people will want to use.

In the case of why get out of your vechicle ever, If I were a tank driver I would also certify in the nessacery things to be able to repair the tank. So I drive to what looks like a safe spot, hop out start fixing and someone jacks the tank and I'm screwed. It's happened to me in BF1942 a few times.

I'm thinking that jacking might come in handy for stealthed patrolers, when they're stalking a sniper who has a vehicle.

Sniper dismounts, sets up, starts merrily plugging people.

Stalker dismounts a distance away (so their vehicle is out of sight,k and isn't audible), jacks sniper's ride, and kills him with it.

By using the sniper's vehicle instead of their own, the stalker GREATLY reduces the chance that the sniper will get away.

Of course a Sneaky Bastard sniper may mine their own vehicle every time they get out (and disarm it before they get back in obviously). At which point the stalker just killed himself. Boom.

And the stalker might just as easily walk up behind the sniper and dump a full clip into the back of the snipers head with the full-auto pistol. Messy. Or drop a grenade (frag or plasma) in their lap. I _know_ you can carry a pistol and stay cloaked... not sure about the grenades though.

I am fairly sure you need a cert for the vehicle your stealing as well, but there was some question about this, due to the fact there are some empire specific vehicles you cant cert in heh

<@StrykerPS> Vehicle must be unoccupied.

<@SmokeJumperPS> Yes...hacking/jacking can occur.

<@StrykerPS> And the amount of time to steal the vehicle is based on the vehicle type and the character's hacking certification level. Better vehicles = more time involved to steal it.

In order to steal, you have to be able to hack. The real question is if you need to be certified to drive the enemies vehicle that you just stole.

I'm wondering if it would allow squad members to drive/pilot once its hacked.

If he gets out of the vehicle for whatever reason and takes one in the brain bucket, can it still be used by the squad? (war is hell)

I have to see this game first hand. this waiting is killing me!

In the Dev chat they were saying that you can set a vechicle up so that only you can drive it, or members of your outfit can drive, and finally if you want you can set it so that anyone in your empire can drive it.

I'd think that if you jacked a vechicle it would become yours and the same rules would apply.

It would appear that way, Question is, once its stolen does the enemy have to jack/hack it back? Or can he just jump in ;)

since vehicals have trnk space for weapons, if yo still a vehical that belongs to another empire, then theres a chance that there are empire specific guns in there

I think stealing vehicles will be important, because you can only have one vehicles at a time, so if yours is stolen, you're stuck for a while until you can get back to a vehicle point =]

I recall that you can set permissions on the vehicles you own:

1: Just you
2: Just your squad
3: Your entire empire

So you won't necessarily be screwed just because someone drove off in your Skeeter.

i don't know it in detail but so much:

<@CrazyMike> And vehicles that are created are "owned" by you? As in you are the only one who can drive it?

<@SmokeJumperPS> There are permissions that can be set on any vehicle you own. You "own" any vehicle that you sit in as the driver/pilot. Not just the ones you create.

We dont know for sure if you can set outfit permissions on it, or make it public.

But its a pretty good bet :D
