Yeah, I heard about this...agreed, that is one crazy bitch. Given that all that the average American hears about religion are child molestation cases and the "God Hates ****" train...blah, I'll stop there. It's outright wrong to go to funerals and say "Hey, your son died because we tolerate gay people!" There's a line between what the Bible says and outright hatred being covered up by the Bible, and she crosses it.

They were scheduled to come up to Plattsburgh, NY june 2005. Not sure if they made it. They were going to picket that fact that Plattsburgh has a gay mayor. He is actually one of the best mayors, that Plattsburgh has ever seen. yes, I get a little uncomfortable around two guys kissing, but that's because I haven't normally been around it. But, what they do is just pathetic. I should go to their church, and do something Nazi-ish, since according to them, **** are the real nazi's... I know exactly what to do. I will audit them. Now that will be fun. The government should kidnap them all, and drop them off in the middle of Iraq, or something. Screw that.. Palestine is much better place to drop them off. What the Torah, and Bible say is that, although they do not agree with homosexuality, they still say to be kind to EVERYONE no matter what. So technically they are going against their own bible. Woot!

You can't play the bible angle against them... thing is they probably know it by heart and could cite you some obscure passage that would say the entire opposite of what you countered their argument with.

These people are totals dolts and should be shot.

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Matthew 22: 36-40, NIV.

Straight from the horse's mouth. The Bible does not contradict itself.

OK OK so maybe the really early parts do, like Genesis. Genesis says "Do X or I'll turn you into a pillar of salt", while the New Testament says "Do X + Y so you can go to heaven :D "

Let's see here....

Good to all or just a few?

PSA 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

JER 13:14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

Problems with your calendar god? Seven years too much of a commitement?

II SAMUEL 24:13: So God came to David, and told him, and said unto him, shall SEVEN YEARS OF FAMINE come unto thee in thy land? or will thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue. thee?

I CHRONICLES 21:11: SO God came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee. Either THREE YEARS OF FAMINE or three months to be destryed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee;

Now... he's a hippy AND a warmonger?

EXO 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

ROM 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

And there is a ton of that shit... a TON!

Edit: Oh! Here's a better one!

Joseph was either
a. The first child to be adopted by a gay couple
b. The child of a woman who wasn't quite sure who the father was.... so she put both names on the birth ceritificate.

I'm willing to be this is a biblical contradiction.

MATTHEW 1:16 "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."

LUKE 3:23 "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli."

The Psalms are the works of human authors. Jeremiah was a prophet. He recieved visions and commands directly from God. You can write a psalm about whatever you think God is like. While it is true that God loves us all and wishes us to join him, he's not a suckup. Christians aren't supposed to be "nice", we're supposed to be firm. If God wanted to defend his Chosen People (at the time only the Hebrews) then so be it.

As for the calendar goof, no idea. Both of those verses are out of context, I can't tell. Remember that these scripts are thousands of years old and were never intended to be a history book. Two people are going to see and event and will write two differing stories about it.

Hippy v Warmongerer: Again, God decided to punish those persecuting his Chosen People. With Jesus, the whole world became his Chosen People. Exactly why is beyond me.

Joseph has two daddies: Not exactly. The Gospels were written a few dozen years after Jesus died, and are four different accounts of the same thing. Giovanni, who was your great-great-great grandfather's name?

A number of them do make very "wtf" references. I think Matthew refers to Jesus having brothers...which kind of throws out the idea of the Holy Family of three. However, a lot of references from those times don't make sense in modern days. "Brothers" means his disciples, not blood brothers. For example, the famous saying "It is harder for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Paradise" doesn't mean that tiny hole on the end of a needle. Side city doors back then were rather thin, and a camel had to squeeze his way through. The door was "the eye of the needle".

Good to all or just a few?
John wrote God is love, not he was or is now but he is and always will be a god of love. And from beginning to end, the Bible record supports that statement. He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love.
Moses wrote in Deuteronomy, Be glad, you nations, with his people, For he will avenge the blood of his servants, And he will pay back vengeance to his adversaries And will indeed make atonement for the ground of his people.
So the God of love declared himself also to be a God of vengeance. But his taking vengeance on his enemies would be right. Yet, repeatedly, the Bible says that the God of love is also a God of vengeance. Why? Because God***8217;s love cannot forever tolerate evil.
If I do indeed sharpen my glittering sword, And my hand takes hold on judgment, I will pay back vengeance to my adversaries And render retribution to those who intensely hate me.
When the first human pair fell to temptation by Satan, the serpent, they lost eternal blessings not only for themselves but also for their unborn children and their children and so on. At this point, the first prophecy recorded in the Bible, that a promised ***8216;seed of the woman***8217; would bruise the head of the serpent.
And I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise you in the head and you will bruise him in the heel.
So the ***8216;seed of the woman***8217;, Jesus, would be bruised in the heal, his death on earth by Satan***8217;s earthly seed, and Jesus was then resurrected to heaven to await the appointed time to hurl Satan into an abyss where he will be immobile for a thousand years and shortly thereafter is to be annihilated forever in ***8220;the lake of fire,***8221; ***8220;the second death.***8221;
And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he seized the dragon, the original serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 And he hurled him into the abyss and shut [it] and sealed [it] over him, that he might not mislead the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After these things he must be let loose for a little while.
God demonstrated his love in an extraordinary way, by sending his only-begotten Son to earth to provide the ransom sacrifice. The apostle John wrote:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.
I don***8217;t know about you but giving your son up to be tortchered and put to a painful death would be very difficult thing to do and see but God did it out of love for all of us.

But because God***8217;s love through his Son, Jesus Christ, is so generous, some have thought that He could not be the same God as the one spoken of in the Hebrew Scriptures as bringing punishment and judgment.

But is the God taught by Jesus so different from the God portrayed in the Hebrew Scriptures? Or is it that people have chosen to see just what they want to see? Doesn***8217;t that well-known scripture, John 3:16, show that if you do not ***8220;exercise faith***8221; in the Son, that one will be ***8220;destroyed***8221;?

John also wrote:
He that disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.
Why should his displeasure against the unfaithful Israelites and others in the Hebrew Scriptures make him any less a God of love? Doesn***8217;t a parent of a child discipline them when they misbehave? They don't discipline a child because they hate them but because they love them.

Well I was going to discuss more of the things you posted about but I've already wasted 2 hours doing research and writing this. So I'll leave it at this.

EDIT: This post was in reply to Giovanni, I'm not sideing with the wacko lady.

Problems with your calendar god? Seven years too much of a commitement?
First let***8217;s find out why God was punishing David in the first place. I was going to quote the scripture but to save space I***8217;ll link to it here (http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults.php?passage1=2+Samuel+24%3A1-10&version1=31).

Taking a census was not something against the law. Not long after the exodus from Egypt, God asked Moses to take ***8220;the sum of the sons of Israel as a census of them.***8221; This listed all men who were eligible for military duty, and a head tax was taken for the service of the tabernacle.

Many Bible scholars have offered various possible reasons for God***8217;s viewing David***8217;s census taking as a sin. Some have thought that David didn***8217;t collect the head tax as God said should be done when a census is taken. Others have said that he was showing weakness in trying to find out how large his military force was, instead of depending on God for victory no matter what its size. Others say that David might have given in to human pride, wanting to be able to boast over Israel***8217;s importance and glory.

We don***8217;t know why David***8217;s census was a sin. What he did was definitely wrong, because the Bible says it was Satan who ***8220;rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.***8221; Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.
Even Joab recognized David shouldn***8217;t of taken the census. But Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the numbering, because the king's command was repulsive to him. We don***8217;t know all the facts and might never, but if David***8217;s servants knew that this act was wrong, there must have been a basis for their conclusion. Even David, when he had finished, confessed: "I have sinned greatly in what I have done.***8221; (2 Sam. 24:10 (http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults.php?passage1=2+Sam.+24%3A10&version1=31))

And now this brings us to the main point***8230;

God***8217;s prophet Gad was sent to David, giving David, a choice of one of three forms of punishment: a famine for three years, the sword of Israel***8217;s enemies overtaking Israel for three months, or a pestilence for three days. David, leaning on God***8217;s mercy rather than man***8217;s, chose to ***8220;fall into the hand of the LORD***8221;(1Ch 21:13 (http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults.php?passage1=1Ch+21%3A13&version1=31))

2 Samuel 24:13 says seven years of famine, 1 Chronicles 21:12 says three. The Greek Septuagint reads ***8220;three***8221; in the Samuel account. One proffered explanation is that the seven years referred to at Second Samuel would be an extension of the three years of famine that came because of the sin of Saul and his house against the Gibeonites. ( 2 Samuel 21:1-2 (***8221;http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults.php?passage1=2+Samuel+21%3A1-2&version1=31***8221;))

The current year (the census took 9 months and 20 days) would be the fourth, and three years to come would make seven. Although the difference may have been due to a copyist***8217;s error, it may be said that a full knowledge of all the facts and circumstances should be had before one reaches a conclusion.

I  you too Giovanni.
