I stopped by EB Games on my way home from work yesterday to see if they had a bargain bin or used copy of Unreal Tournament 2004. They didn't nor did any of the stores in the area. (I got it online this morning at Cybercity for $18.98).

Since I was already at EB Games I picked up Oblivion (you can't go home empty handed!) and at the checkout the saleslady started grilling me about up coming gaming titles I might be interested in. I was all "No thanks, nothing is really piqueing my interest until the fall" and then she started in on making sure I pre-order the games I wanted. I told her I usually do that.

The saleslady said the reason she is asking all of this information was because soon EB Games will only be carrying games on a pre-order basis. No more PC titles on the shelf.

Not sure if this is just in my area or not.

The console seems to be winning the war.

Have you been in there lately Hamma? When I was in there yesterday I noticed one wall was devoted entirely to Xbox 360 and another wall was all used (previously owned) Xbox 360 games.

The PC games were on a little pushcart in the center (One of the wheels was even missing), they had like 40 titles crammed on it - mostly duplicates.

Could be that the Pay 2 Play games are crimping the style of the retail game seller. Store shelves need to be stocked with games that are going to sell. With a game like WoW for example, you purchase the game for 55 bucks and pay to play for the next two years. The retail seller is only going to see a portion of the 55 bucks and that's it - the gaming company reaps the pay to play profits. The retail game seller may not see that customer again for months - if not for a year (or until WoW's luster has worn off).

They used to have a wall entirely to themselves with used titles in the middle. They also had a big cabinet behind the counter.

When I asked for Oblivion, she took it from a small cabinet off to the side. They only had a handful of new PC titles in there. Two Oblivion titles were left after mine.

That's true, I haven't bought a PC game since WoW.

But I don't really play games much anymore either. :(

This is a sad day for PC gamers everywhere. I make a point of not buying any consoles. They just aren't the same.

Viva la PC!

EB games employees dont know anything, any they are sneaky little bastards. I have heard of employees being paid $50 by some people, just to have them moved up on the order list for the 360.

Just read an article on E3, 4 in 10 people play Online games...and growing, even declaring that console alone gaming is dead. The new consoles are going to have access to the internet & more and more games will have an option to play via the net. Another point to bring up, with DSL and other high speed internet availability increasing and decreasing in costs.....more and more people are buying direct from the developer and downloading the game vs. going to the store and buying it. Not too mention, most just pre-order the game and have it delivered to there mail box.

Sadly, I do not either.. Between school and running my business, I have no time left. Whatever time I do have, I spend with my girl, which leaves no time for games. It does suck but then again, I see it as a way of moving on with my life. I'm not saying i'm letting games completely go, but from here on out, more important things have come up. I'm graduating college in one year, so I have many things to think about.
