My mom has a phone EXACTLY like this, but with a touch screen, PDA style. The fucking thing has Word, Excel, Internet, and video/camera. Its amazing, I could literally pass all of highschool with this phone alone.

The Q looks really sweet, I may check it out.

I know I never said I wanted a phone that does anything more than make calls - but it's a nice looking phone with an assload of features. I mean its a business class phone like a Treo which I used to have, and it's got all the neato consumer functions too.

The Nokia N series is pure awesome. If i was to get a new phone, It'd be an N90 or 93.

At least it doesent make me look like a retard for Stereotyping everyone :brow:

:D

Actually as far as smart phones go, it isn't that expensive.

Giovanni
2006-05-30, 05:16 PM
Yeah I know... stuff is getting cheaper and cheaper every day I just don't get the whole Treo, etc. thing.

I'll be needing to get a nice business phone and laptop for when I go on site at a job for my business (I'm starting a computer repair ship if you didn't know). As for a phone with features, I've just finished setting up my VOIP business phone in my workspace. It's got a digital display and a crapload of call options including multiple lines, hold music and a pile of voicemail options.

A laptop I'll definately need just for analyzing and uploading information to a computer on site (I'll probably get Verizon's wireless broadband service for it), and a nice business phone will be needed so that I can easily interface with email, and voicemail, as well as run GPS navigating for when I'm trying to find my way to the customer.

I wasn't a big fan of the Treo, or the Blackberry, or any of the Smartphones. But that, is fucking sexy. :drools:

I just got an L6 though, so no need to upgrade. :o

Well it came out today as planned - the phone plan on it looks rather pricey though - 79.99 for unlimited data and 500 call minutes? Sounds expensive although it is unlimited data and high speed. Time to look at the other carriers and see if the cost is comparable.

Unfortunatly right now the Q is exclusive to VZW

Electrofreak
2006-05-31, 02:10 PM
Last I checked, unlimited PDA data use on the Verizon network was $45.00 a month...

Hamma

Yea no shit wtf is this 80/mo shit? sounds like they are just trying to rape the new Q subscribers.

Hamma

Actually it appears all their smart phones have the same monthly plan.

Setari
2006-05-31, 03:38 PM
Maybe they assume that since you can afford the phone, you can afford the plan.

Hamma
2006-05-31, 05:25 PM
Apparently, pretty gay considering all the other providers data plans are much lower.

It's official. It sucks. Check CNN's review:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/ptech/06/01/motoq.ap/index.html

On the subject of smart phones, check out what I just picked up off a friend for free:

http://product.samsung.com/images/prod_imgs/sph_i700_verizon_gal_lg1.jpg

Samsung i700 Pocket PC. Touch screen display, integrated camera, phone capability. While its lacking a QWERTY keyboard (you're supposed to use an on-screen keyboard with the touch display) as well as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, it's still pretty nifty. I'll probably just use it as a PDA, I've got a cell with Bluetooth and a PSP with Wi-Fi anyhow, so it'll make a handly planner. I might make use of the GPS once I start doing on-site repair work on people's PCs.

Perhaps eventually I'll get a Verizon data package with it (but as mentioned above, its damned expensive) so that I can download updated drivers for an internet-incapable computer while on site, then transfer the files using a USB card reader or a link cable. By then I might just snag a newer model though. Who knows. Can't beat this for a freebie tho.

Hamma
2006-06-05, 10:33 AM
That review has been posted in several places  CNN can't write their own review apparently.

Regardless I don't consider that a "OMG THIS SUX" review, it just doesen't have some features the reviewer thought it should have.

Either way the plan is foolishly expensive, VZ is snorting cocaine or some shit.

sorry I'll stick to a normal phone. I don't need to hold something up to my ear that looks like optimus prime ate my computer and shit ti out on top of a cellphone.

those phones are so big and bulky I couldn't stick it in my pocket, it would break way too easy therefore it is useless to me.

Hamma

The Q is pretty good as far as size goes, the Treo etc are all pretty bulky.

So I picked up the phone to give it a try, have 15 days to decide weather I like it or not.

So far I think it's cool, I had some trouble with the phone battery life at first but I think there was a programming issue. Verizon had me reprogram the phone and the battery life has seemed to get to where it should be. Will post if i end up giving it up.

I'm in love with my Samsung SPH-i700 even though it doesn't have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This thing rocks. Huge touch screen, and transcribes written text on the screen pretty accurately. When I get enough cash I think I'll grab the i730, it has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, as well as a pop-out QWERTY keyboard and a bunch of other nice features.

I also got a Bluetooth USB adapter for my computer, so now I can link my cell phone and my Bluetooth headset to my computer. My normal headset for TeamSpeak broke, so the Bluetooth headset fills in nicely. Being able to be on TS while I go grab a snack downstairs FTW.

I really don't like people enough to spend more than 2 bucks on a phone. fuck you people. If someone wants to talk to me they can do it face to face. unless its an emergency or something.

because I don't care what you just did, or what you just bought, or what you're eating at the moment. NOTHING in your pathetic lives is important enough to be on the god damn phone 24/7. if you're not dying or trying to hide a body, It can wait till you see me in person.

they may or may not be. but take time out of your day and just watch people. and see how many fucking people, anywhere, are on the god damn cell phone at any given time. its mind boggling. how did all of you survive before cell phones?

however i am pissed off at little kids (as in kids who cant drive) having cell phones. that just blows my mind.

Electrofreak

I spend all day at work on the phone, but, ironically enough, once I'm off work, I spend a good bit of time on the phone with people again. Of course, if I can hang out with them, I do, but otherwise I'm gonna do the next best thing, which is chat with em.

As for expensive phones, shit, my phone can play mp3s and video, which is damned useful for when I'm sitting in a waiting room at the doctors office or something bored out of my mind. 1 Gig of memory and 3 seasons of TV shows goes a long way when you're bored. If I'm going somewhere where I KNOW I'll be waiting a long time (example, DMV), I bring my PSP along and watch movies or play games.

As for my i700 Pocket PC (and yes, it doubles as a phone), I got it for free, TBH I wouldn't spend that kinda money on something I don't need. But now that I'm running my own business, I need it to set up appointments for people and jot down notes on the touch screen as to what parts I need to order and such. The thing is invaluable for shit like that. Like I said, I'll probably spend the couple hundred bucks for the newer version when I can afford it because it'll make my job easier. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is handy to have when on site troubleshooting a network. You can log into a wireless router from anywhere, update firmware, tweak settings, without running all over the place.

What pisses me off are people with technology they don't know how to use, or don't use at all. You see people walking around with fancy phones that do shit they'll never use. They do it for the status symbol, which is retarded. If I spend a lot of money on a piece of technology (which I often do), you better damn well believe I'll be using all of its features.

My one problem with people who talk on cell phones are the type of people who have loud, obviously private conversations in public. You know the type. "THAT LYING BASTARD!" "OH NO SHE DIDN'T! SHEEEAT, FO REAL?!" "Yeah, while you're on the way home, pick up some tampons for me. No, the other kind. Oh and grab some condoms too. Yeah. Her Pleasure."

That kinda shit bugs me to no end. I have no problem with hearing people talk to other people, but they also need to realize that they're in a public place.

If you are in business on the road all the time a cellphone and a PDA (or both) are invaluble. 7 year olds on cell phones? nope. If I have kids they aren't touching a fucking cell phone until they are older. What really pisses me off are kids sitting in class on phones, they are taken away then the parent whines "wahh what if i need to get in touch with my son or daughter" here's a fucking novel concept: call the school. That's what they did back before cell phone's and it's still the way it should be done. We know where your son or daughter is at all times in the school and can get them just as quickly without you interupting the entire class with your frivolous phone call.

It is out of hand, but in moderation it's fine. Most people don't walk around with it fused to their ears. But on the flip side alot of people do - they can't fucking remove the thing from their head. That pisses me off to especially when I get cut off on the highway by some cock on the phone.

Just because some people are dickheads doesen't mean all of "Us people" can't live without cell phones

I have one of the Walkie-talkie phones. Don't even have the Cell phone shit. I just use it if I need to talk to my Dad or brother. We all have one....only 1$ per day too, and that's if you use it for that day.

All this Cell phone shit is annyoing me though, I agree with OMA. I feel like stabbing my brother (6' 5" Red-headed skinny white-boy wigger) everytime I hear one of his ringtones. Annoying as fuck.

If I didn't have a cell phone I'd never be able to call anyone.

My sister hogs up the land line somethign horrible. I also travel alot so it helps if someone needs me.

Anyway, I keep mine on vibrate 24/7 so it never interupts anything(I also got the free phone, though I'd get one of those that has a good cammera that takes quality pictures).

I think it's retarded kids have them on in school, always texting each other.

It's really funny to see kid conditioned to hold it under the table do so in places where it's OK to text.

Actually in New York state, it's illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving unless you have a hands-free set. You get a pretty nasty ticket if you get caught. Pretty most people out here have Bluetooth phones now with wireless headsets, or at least a wired headset. Those who don't learn to hide the phone real quick when a cop shows up in the rearview mirror.
