For all those who plan on going airborne plz feel free to post on the types of planes you would like to see. Here are a couple of mine.
1. A bomber- Attack runs would be so sweet in these.
2. A V-class DropShip- A dropship meant for vehicles, only they can get in.
3. Supiority Fighter- Missles and stuff
4.Gunner Ship- A ship designed to destroy light vehicles and infantry. Full of gun mounts. Flys low, flys fast.
[TEAR]Dark- I wanna bomb, i wanna run, i wanna cry, when the shelters full, cuz they say F U, no more room for you. * * => BOOM!

Devs have stated that they don't want spam(read bomber), want to make large tanks hard to bring to bear(V-class), and want most of the fighting to be ground based(supiriority fighter).
The Reaver is designed to take out vehicles, but the multipule guner's positions sounds like a good idea.
i want to see a leaonardo da vinchi airplane

I actually would like a plane that just had a bunch of bottom mounted chainguns. That'd rule for mowing down infantry (even though that's what I'll be  ).
I for one, would like to see a tap dancing moose that can sing "We are the Champions" backwards. But it ain't gonna happen.
Was that a little too cynical?

Dancing moose... man... how are you NOT a millionair yet with ideas like that?

They have explained multiple times that they wanted to have a way for players with less "player skills" to be able to enjoy the combat aspect of the game, and piloting seemed like a good place to put it in. Please read the official update forum here and look at this thread (http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3065) and note there will be other ways to test your 1337 skills with flying.

1. A bomber would mean the dreaded spam bombing, i can see why it isn't there.
2. A v-class dropship? well, the galaxy can carry a vehicle, but one specifically for vehicles would either be pointless or insanely advantagous. For balancing issues you would either only carry one, therefore not much better than the galaxy (in which you can also carry people) or multiple in which case transporting an army would be a lil too easy.
3. A Superiority fighter would produce a core dogfighting crowd, but I think most of us want to concentrate on the ground combat, with air support and transport.
4. Gun ship. Well, the galaxy has the gun emplacements and the reaver is pretty anti-vehicular from what I gather.

Booooooooooo.
I don't see how making the flight engine suck will mean that people will enjoy combat more.
This is supposed to be a skill based game, not a game that is accomadating for carebears. SOE has SWG to take care of all the carebear needs.
Just cause I can fly behind objects does not mean the filght system enjoyable. If flying is not fun, I am not going be demonstrating any manuvers at all.
Down with the boating.

i would like to see an airbase type plane. something big and slow with lots of gun and roket turrets who's main purpose is to esscort galaxys. it wouldnt be very good at attacking ground forces, so it wouldnt throw things out of balence. just good for deffense and that way u aint gota cirlce the damn galaxy all day with ur reavers and skeeters caues the freakin things so slow.

They need to have basic controls (boating) and then advanced controls (something mroe along the lines of an actual flight sim) That would work for newbs and pros.

no they just need to make controls about as complex as BF1942, boating is stupid and no fun

How do you know? Have you flown a a Galaxy yet? Maybe it rocks, maybe it sucks. But SOE really wasn't trying for a flight sim game, so I guess you can't expect flight sim controls.

Since guns have ammo in Planetside, there is no reason that bombs wouldn't also have a limited count. Therefore, bombers would be no spammier than the developers wanted them to be. You could also make them handle like the galaxy or even worse.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Aliens style dropship that holds a Sunderer instead of a buggy and an infantry squad. However, it wouldn't be worth implementing unless dropships could traverse continents without going through the gates. So scratch that idea and just focus on the bomber.

I couldn't agree w/ Lex any more. If the flight dynamics are like boating what fun will it be? Granted this game isn't a flight sim, but i would imagine making the flight model as close to real as possible would make this game much more fun for everyone. I was planning on being a pilot but that might change.
As far as making this game Newb friendly, isn't that what the sim is for? To learn the game and gain BEP's? I would imagine we can practice till were blue in the face in the sim, correct?

Now arent you constructive with that post...
If 'boating' is not fun, why are there so many people playing tribes?
Now, just like in 1942, when there are planes in the air, there is almost twice as much lag sometimes, due to the 'Complex' flight system. I'm guessing thats why the guys at PS choose the boating system.

I agree with their decision to go with more T2 like controls. I'm not sure where someone got the "boating" comparison from lol, probably should have left that out of the interview.
None the less, this isnt a flight sim, its a dynamic world where there are ground, and air vehicles. T2 flying is <b>not</b> easy to master. People who say that either never tried it - or listened to someone else. :p It took me some time to get my skill up in T2, and if I didnt fly at least a few times a week I started to suck :p
I'd rather they spend time on the game as a whole rather than trying to turn it into a flight sim

Havocs I say are really hard.........for I cant fly too low to the ground cause I always flip and blow up.......
All I want from PS-in airborne vehicles-is the abillity to corckscrew. Thats somthin T2 lacked.......for only scripts held the power of screwin.......
Now once I get PS......First I'm gona try the buggy.......for laughs......then the Mosqito......then the reaver........then the Galaxy..........oh yea, also the bike!!!

I'm gonna agree with everybody about the T2 flying engine. I agree with Hamma that it isn't easy to master, although it is definately easy to do poorly. Contour flying a Havoc through a narrow valley with a shrike chasing you is hard. Doing multiple consecutive bombing runs against any kind of base defense is also hard.
I'll agree with the other side that flying is more fun with pitch, yaw, and roll. It is also better to have throttle controls. As far as I'm concerned, the hardcore sim fans can keep trim and elevator controls.
If you asked me, the perfect flight model for PSide would be just like Crimson Skies.

I really have to get T2. I have no idea whats going on. All i know is i hope it isnt like BF1942 where joysticks and alot of practice are key just for keeping the damn thing in the air let alone hiting something.
I want my skeeter to bank when i turn, but i dont mind if it banks on its own. Id like to be able to barrel roll and such, but mostly, i dont wanna crash the thing 9 times out 10. I wanna be shot down damn it. (sorry just got out of BF, kinda mad at my planes.)

JumpGate has a really easy to use flight engine, but in a battle, you can see a hugh difference between a n00b, average player, and vet. Also, I've played for over a year, and still cannot do well vs the top 20% of the people when I'm at my best.
P.S. The plane I want to see is something like the Premia SC from JumpGate :D I love that ship!

We also have to remember that any online multiplayer games will have tweaks and patchs behond Release (hopefully).
Maybe they will add more complicated controls for vehicules (including tanks and buggies and whats not).
one thing's for sure... i am a hardcore flight sim... been playing IL2 Sturmovik for over a year and am currently testing the next installement (Forgotten Battles)... but for all its worth, probably less then 1% of the people in here would like that kind of 'handing' in PS... So many people have trouble flying in Battlefield... it would be a mess in PS.
Also, Rolls and banks are useless to a plane if you cannot pitch (move the nose up and down) to do loops and stuff. But overall, i think most vehicules will be satisfying for the first few months... and will most probably go through changes (for the best of course)... and perharps later banks and rolls and such will be added (repeating myself here, arent i?).
All i can say is... where's my ALiens Marine DropShip damnit!! ;)

Yes Toimu, good example. As well as Airlift's example Crimson Skies. I don't want an all out flight sim, just something a bit more realistic yet easy to learn and hard to master.

After sitting my Jumpgate carreer in a 'sitting duck', I'd like to try out a 'hit and run' style of airborne assaulting. If not, I'll just prolly be down on the ground with all the action.
