A few days ago I had this crazy idea of getting myself a motorcycle. I have been doing research and discussing it on motorcycle forums and I decided the bike I want is a Kawasaki Ninja 250. I am going to get a job soon and save up money over the summer. If all goes acording to plan I will have enough money by the time I am back in school and have this bike my senior year in high school.

Ain't it? It only costs $3000 and gets 75 miles per gallon as well. 0-60 in just under 6 seconds and a top speed of well over 100 mph. But it still only has a 250cc engine (small for a bike for those that don't know) so its good for a beginner. The best way to kill yourself as a beginner is to have a bike with a huge ass engine that you simply can not handle.
Heres a really really good forum post of a motorcycle veteran riding a kawasaki ninja 250. Its a great read if you have any interest and it was a large part of me deciding to get this bike. http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1145

You just had to remind me.
Oh how I miss it :(
For Reference: I owned this http://www.steves-motorcycles.co.uk/suzuki/sv650-s-k4/sv650-s-k4-right.jpg
A 2005 Suzuki SV650 S in yellow... all of which was ended rather tragically when I was practically run over by a dick in an SUV with a cellphone and an issue with traffic laws.
Considering how much money I got for graduation, I'm debating buying a 2006 model in the Suzuki stock blue color. It looks bitching with full fairing.
Its a nice mid-weight bike, it can't pump out the speed and power of some others, but its very well rounded.

I cannot stand "Hogz" or "Choppers". If I were to ever get a bike, it would most likely be what Jageds looking at. Thats cheap, and it sounds really good (judging from that forum post).

Every review I have seen has been saying the same thing about this bike. It sure does look like a nice machine.
And I cant stand hods or choppers as well. Sports bikes FTW.

I start week 1 of the MSF course on July 7th. I'll have my M1 License on the 14th after my last day for week 2, and I have $2500 in the bank.
I'm currently negotiating the price of a 2004 Suzuki GS500F. Blue Book is $3500, but he is asking $2,500. :D

I will be riding within the next month. I cannot wait.
btw, I never knew you rode Infernus. SV650's are awesome, I love the naked version of the bike.

What can I say, I like feeling the power between my legs.
I kept mine naked naked... I orignally had every intention of buying fairing for it, but it looked so much more fucking kick ass without it. I never even thought to take a picture with it at all though, and that pisses me off.
I really wanna get a new one, but its kinda pointless really... I can't take it to school with me so it would get pretty much no use at all.

Because school is in Pittsburgh and home is in Philadelphia and its a 5 hour drive on a good day. :p
Actually, its more because I'd have no where to put it. Freshman aren't allowed to use any of the school parking places so the convenience of having something with a motor to ride on is pretty much canceled by having to worry about where to store said vehicle when I'm done with it.

Pretty cool bike - I am more of a car person myself. If I was to own a bike it would be a loud throaty Chopper. Sorry Mag :p

Depends really on the travelling you do. If you intend to go on a rat bike and do long trips... prepare to have back aches... it's just not that comfortable. A big chopper where you sit like if you were in a couch tends to be less of a pain on long trips.
I intend to get a chopper eventually... but first I'm getting a shitty car and then a rat bike probably the same as Squeeky. I don't wanna wreck a bike and go "OMG!!!! 45000$$!!!!"

Considering how unsafe motorcycles are compared to cars (hope you didn't get too banged up at that accident, Infernus), I'd rather take it slow and ride easy on a chopper instead of going from 0 to the graveyard in 6 seconds... Plus choppers are better seen and more respected than the speed-freak-bikes that are only good to push yourself beyond the limit before you even know it - or know how to handle it. Or... to really mark the difference, maybe I'll get a stylish trike instead with hog-like engine... :cool2:

I didn't get too banged up at all, the bike caught the worst of it.
But my case isn't the best one to use in an arguement about motorcycle safety - it could've happened just as much if you were in a car.

To be honest, I have no respect for people who ride choppers. I think they are dirty, greasy, scary people. Just my opinion though.

I like cars. I mean cycles have some cool points, but it's just not all that usefull for me.
For $3000, I could get an old BMW E30 or VW GTi project car, I'd much rather have that.

By respect I mean respecting them on the road - I don't care about them OFF their bikes. If you were driving as much as I am in a country which yearly competes with one or two others for being the country with the most casualties attributed to traffic accidents (Way to go Portugal!!!) of the whole european continent, then you would also respect more the hog-drivers than the speedfreaks... Believe me...

Neither style of bike is more safe. What matters is the size of the engine. Any real non beginner hog has an engine far larger then 250cc. This means it is less safe for a beginner and faster and more dangerous then my sleek sexy ninja. Just because it is a sports bike does not mean its dangerous. It is what is inside that counts. A beginner with a hog with a huge engine is in just as much danger as a beginner on a hog with a huge engine.

I have read many a forum posts on motorcycle forms from people who usualy ride hogs and then sit down on a ninja and say it is one of the most comfortable bikes they have ever ridden.

If it's about safety, a motorcycle is a motorcycle.
Most people see the croch rocket style as more dangerous, but in reality the HD Softail Fatboy with a 1400cc Twin Cam can be just as lethal.
The difference is the style, most of the crowd on Hogs is honestly 40+. You don't see too many teens on Hogs or old guys on Croch rockets, and in all honesty, younger people are... "Less cautious"
Harley Davidson is trying to catch some of the younger crowd with the VRSCs

The safety issue between speedster bikes and choppers isn't in the size of the engines, but in the way they drive. You can be on a Fat Boy and still feel good about yourself if you're rumbling down at 20mph... But I bet tolerating that kind of speed whilst sitting on a speed bike must feel just like: Damn, I MUST GO FASTER!!! Whilst choppers, hey, they just take it easy, enjoy the scenery, and take a pleasant, slow, drive... Therein lies the safety. Of course any hog-driver that drives too fast is just as dangerous as a speed bike, if not more. It's just not the style of hog-drivers to go fast - they like to pace the roads rumbling and feel like the kings of the road - and that makes them safer and more respected by everybody else they share the pavement with than the speedfreak who considers driving anything below 60 mph like being in slow motion...

Well that dosent nesecarily mean that I am that kind of a speed freak. My mail concern on this bike will be safety. I do not plan on pushing myself faster then I can handle safely. I think the difference in safety on bikes boils down directly to the riders. Older people get hogs, younger get sports bikes. Older people are safer with more experience. But I am younger so I am getting a sports bike. I would be just as safe/unsafe if I purchased a hog.

Its the only kind you'd ever catch me on. Choppers to me are something that 40 year olds buy when they try to regain their rebellious youth.

two weeks ago I was riding my friends 400 and I fell cause the retard had roadtires on it. I was mad....it would've been a good thing to note since we were riding on trails.
First off Jaged, have you ever road a motorcyle? If no, then I highly recomend you not get that cause you'll end up killing yourself. Train on a smaller bike.
