Hey folks,

Whenever I buy a CD, I immidately rip it to my computer into my rather large mp3 collection. I don't download illegal music at all, I stick to buying CDs and putting them on my computer.

I've noticed recently that my collection is getting a little out of hand as far as size goes. So, I come to you. Tell me about your mp3 habits.. how you organize them, what programs you use to play them, etc.

On my old computers I used Winamp all the time, but I've recently started using WMP on my laptop. Other than a few irritations, it works fine. As I currently have it, ALL of my mp3s are stored as individual files kept in one folder. The only bit of organization there is is that each file is named "Artist - Track Name.mp3" To rip music, I use CDex.

What about you? How do you handle your mp3s?

I keep my random songs in the my music folder, some album folders too. I bookmarked the my music folder in the media library, so I open it with that then I have one playlist with all my music. If I am looking for a specific track, then I use the jump feature (hotkey j when in the playlist window). If your songs dont have ID3 info, you can give it to them with winamp. It might take you a while, but I'd say it's worth it.

I keep only whole albums for the most part.

They all have correct ID tags and for teh most part each album is in a folder insider of an artist folder.

The ID tags are key, I could loose the entire folder structure, but because of the tags programs can figure it out.

Well I play my music with foobar. All of my music is separated into folders based on artist, and then album. In foobar, I keep all the artists as separate playlists. Or if I'm doing a shoutcast, I use winamp where my music is separated in pretty much default winamp style.

For the most part, it's the same as Rob I suppose.

I use Itunes, easy to organize and has some great options for playlists and favorites and such.

I use XMMS and I organize them by title. I don't listen to music a lot and I don't have too many songs.

I use Itunes. Alphabetical order works for me.

iTunes, you could have the most unorganized hairball MP3 collection. Put them all in one folder, and point to that folder as your library folder. iTunes automatically organizes by ID3 tags and creates folders by artists name. It can even gather information. Ive been using it ever since it came out windows. I love it.

I use iTunes, mostly because all of my music is there anyway for my iPod, so i might as well use it.

I use winamp, but my files are so out of order it's not even funny  I tried to organize it a few times so its not extremly impossible to find something.. still a mess though.

Random collecting of MP3's, drunken AGN broadcasts have all taken their toll.
