I'm sure some of you have already played the basic version of this game, but you have to download this one. It's updated with tons of new substances, and density.

The game is downloadable here. (http://www.piettes.com/fallingsandgame/bin/sand-4-20060322.exe)

Then save this as a text file and when you start the game, go to File>Load Physics and point to this file. (http://www.karlprof.com/public_storage/lynx_mod.txt)

Some basic stuff for you:

Water boils, cools glass, and when come in contact with uranium can start a fusion reaction; Steam rises then condenses and falls as water; Saltwater slowly seperates into salt and water.

Ice, snow, and froze waste melt.

Metal conducts heat; wall is just a wall; concrete is basically wall but creates more concrete from water when contacting it; rock doesn't melt (good for volcanoes); glass heats up slowly and is cooled by water (also boils water).

Oil and crude oil burn fast; tar burns slowly; fire burns shit; lava is hot, magma is hot and makes ash, and volcano does shit too. Torch burns for a while; blowtorch burns blue flames. Blue fire is hotter than red fire. Ember burns for a short while, ??? burns through everything except plant, fusion is like ??? but eats away at stuff, same with radiation.

Oxygen is flamable as well as hydrogen, and form water when they come together. Atmosphere just produces hydrogen.

Nitrogen is flamable, uranium starts fusion when it touches water, acid burns through some stuff, same with weak acid (when acid meets water it forms weak acid); alkaline + acid forms water (neutralization). Nitroglicorine is very flamable.

Plant is flamable and grows when it touches water. Compost and dirt grow plant, compost being better than dirt. Algae grows in water too. Haven't tried weed or seed much.

Virus and bacteria grow and grow fast with DNA availible. They form hybrid when they meet. Screw with the other life stuff.

Wire carries current, filiment creates light when current passes through. Not sure what fuse does; fusion coil creates heat from fusion. Heat converter creates current from heat. Not sure what the other electrical stuff does.

Sand and salt are pretty innert. Cera is wax (burns slowly), and cement is powder till it touches water.

Spouts just continuously produce stuff
Plumbing is just that.

Anyways, have fun, screw around with the shit. It's great.

Oh lord... you have no idea how many hours I wasted away playing this game. I literally did it the entire 45 minutes of government this year every damn day. I had my entire side of the classroom watching me play it. It's a ridiculously stupid game, but I would always think of something fun to do with it and people would just glue their eyes to my screen the whole time. Try making a garden enclosed with walls and protect it against encroaching oil fires. Your imagination can truly run wild.

I made A Volcano Light! This was my first try so I'm not sure if I did it the best way.

The light brown square is the Heat Converter. The Grey lines are the wires and the light blue curly line between the wires is the filament. The White outline is the glass "bulb." The large blue square is the "stove" and the dark brown hill thing is the Volcano.
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8389/volcanolight2gh0.th.png (http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcanolight2gh0.png)
I start the Volcano. The Heat Converter converts the heat to electricity. The electricity moves up the wires.
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/494/volcanolight3bq2.th.png (http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcanolight3bq2.png)
The filament starts to produce light.
http://img312.imageshack.us/img312/751/volcanolight4db6.th.png (http://img312.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcanolight4db6.png)
The "bulb" fills with light.

what's happening in those pics, ivan?

Ivan

The Volcano heats the heat converter, and that converts heat to electricity. The Electricity follows the wires up to the filament, and that begins to make light. I***8217;ll add text to the post with the Pics.

By the way, I figured out a use for Fuse. It's basically a wire that carries the current faster. Make a box full of nitroglicerine, make a battery (heat source + heat converter) and run a fuse to the box. Boom. For fuses, you have to complete the circuit to start current through the wires.

That's cool Diviant! So we could make bombs now!

Edit:Anyone try making Nuclear power yet? Or better yet a nuclear bomb?

By the way everyone, all the pictures I've posted are in .png format. You can save them to your computer and then load them with the program and you'll have exactly what I created and then can modify or what ever you want to what I started.

Sweet so thats a fuse eh. How about a pressure converter or whatever its called. What the hell does that do?

Edit: could someone post a pic of how to use a fuse? I tried what you said and I could not get it to carry any current.

make the fuse loop through the nitroglycerin, touching the wire on both ends (have the fuse in a horse-shoe shape if you will)

Now a lesson why you shouldn't build nuclear power plants on top of old nitroglicerine pipes near volcanoes.

(note: the power plants should actually produce power to run through the power lines, assuming they aren't disconnected by the radiation)

If one of the reactors doesn't start, it's because water + uranium only has a CHANCE to start fusion.

I"ve been watching my volcanoe for the past hour, it passed the time while i was talking to my friend on the phone. One side is all magma, one side is fire slowly dieing out....I don't see any oxygen but plants still grow up in the sky so it seems....

Ivan

I think all planets need once they start is water. I don't think volcanos ever die out.

This isn't real life physics. But just fun to see what you can do.

I can't get it to work... What am I doing wrong?

And I still really wanna know what the Pressure-Gate does.

Edit: I had an older version of the text file loaded in my physics... I used the one in the orignal post and it worked fine. The switch is pretty cool, I diddn't have that before. I still want to know what that pressure gate does though. And the plumbing... I can't get anything to flow through it.

Ivan

I couldn't get the fues to work like you have it in the pic there too. But what I did is replace the fuse you have there with wire then connect the two ends of the wire with fuse that ran through the box.

How did you use the switch?

I'm not sure what the pressure gate does yet.

I'm messing with Ants right now, the little things love dirt.

When it started the crater was maybe a quarter size it is now, there was grass on top of compound and dirt, in the sky was layers of hydrogen and oxygen.

ONce it started magma ripped through the dirt on the right and has been ever growing. THe right was more is either lava or fire. FIrst it was very dense but now its started to form new rock. Patches of snow on the left side I do not understand, on the far left corner magma just showed up under a layer of white which as far as I know is snow.....I don't understand that. Its alsow forming above the magma in the crater.

In the rock I made a small dirtpile and threw some ants in there...they've been digging.

The volcanoe itself is stable, fire sparks out here and there. Plants gorw and burn inside the crater.

Hmm....then the white stuff is seed?

Ants in dirt make compost which eventually makes plants i suppose.

Ants also leave eggs but I've never seen them do anything yet.

The game is fun but I wish some the things actually worked like real life. And so you know, a fuse is a regulator of current and/or voltage, mercury was dissapointing (didn't do anything mercury-like), you don't need to make complete circuits, the "current" dies after one load, and you can create a perpetual motion machine. Other than those problems, its fun. :D

PS: Saying fusion is wrong, in the game its actually fission.

Ivan
2006-08-05, 03:20 PM
I noticed the mercury is conductive. But that's about all i've tried with it.

Diviant
2006-08-05, 03:22 PM
Fuses aren't just for regulating voltage...

You know, like a fuse to a stick of dynamite, or a fuse to a rocket, etc.

They're different fuses, but still.

Now I am near a breakthrough with my first nuclear bomb. I"m so excited. :D

Figured out what pressure gate does. It's slowly eaten away by charged mercury. Btw, mercury holds a charge like nobody's business, and can be charged by acid just like wire/fuse.
