View Full Version : Thinking about getting an Xbox 360

I was considering getting an Xbox 360 now that I have a job and money. Who has one that can tell me if they think its worth it or not? What games are good for it that I should look into? I was looking at chromehounds on gamespot just now and the online play in that game looks fucking awesome. I am more interested in online games then offline, but both are good. Also I am going to be hooking this xbox up to a computer monitor instead of a TV. How would I do this and would I need any extra cables that dont come in the box? I have two computer monitors here side by side. Would there any way to split up two player games between these two monitors instead of doing split screen on one monitor?
Questions, questions and more questions, thanks. =D

Get Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Dead Rising, Oblivion (if you haven't played it on the PC), and perhaps Need for Speed Most Wanted, even if you aren't a racing fan (I'm not one either, but that game owned.)

If you're into racing I'd suggest Project Gotham RAcing 3 tbh, though NFS is ok.
I got mine and I havn't been mad since :) I love it, Halo 2 on it is dead sexsey. Looks a tiny bit better than regular xbox and runs ALOT smoother.
About the monitors? No clue. The cable for the 360 only has regular and HDTV cords on it, you might be able to get extensions and hook it to the monitor, unless it has the standard red/yellow/white slots on it.
Games, I'd suggest Ghost Recon Adv. Warfighter, Dead rising is awesome, and Oblivion is just fucking jizztastic. I also loved Call of Duty 2, some awesome online play, though a bit of a sniper fest (Snipers are easier to use in COD 2 than just about any game).
You should get Live Gold for like 1-3 months free when you buy it so don't worry about paying for that yet, which is good.
Edit: About Oblivion, you can download extra content from live, which I'm sure you know, but lets just say you can buy yourself a massive evil lair for about 3 $, full with minions to fallow your orders, or a Wizzard's Tower on the highest mountain peak with EVERYTHING a mage needs inside of it. You can also become captain of a pirate ship (Can't sail on it =\) And send your crew to a city somewhere to pillage, and get money from it.
Good luck ;)

I like NFS more than Project Gotham, mainly because I hate driving sims, I can't drive for shit without depth perception or g-force so I prefer driving games that allow you to drive full throttle and ram into things and still come in at first place.
I am sure you could not split screen over two screens. For hooking it up to your monitor you would probably need to get a composite to s-video cable, assuming you monitor accepts s-video.

The most fun Im having on my 360 (because I cant afford Live) IS with FIFA 06 and Dead Rising.

On a side note... I'm considering getting Oblivion for my computer. How much like WoW is it? Since it's single player, does it ever get redundant and boring?
Edit: I've created a thread to talk about oblivion specifically so I don't derali this thread. Go here: http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30969

There is an s video hole on the back of my video card. Do you think it would be possible to plug the xbox in there and tell the card to spit it back out to my monitor? And has anyone played chromehounds? I am still curious about that game, multiplayer in particular.

I think the XBox can output to either DVI or HDMI which you can adapt for a monitor. If its an LCD monitor you could just go direct with DVI.

Btw, forgot to say, yes GET Call of Duty 2 if you haven't played it already. The only reason I didn't get it for 360 is because I beat it on the PC.

CoD2 Was good, but I wouldnt suggest it right now, simply because there are better games out now for the 360. But if thats your thing, defintley get it, it is by no means a bad shooter, I liked it more than Quake 4, but tehre are more appealing games out now than that in my opinion.

:domotwak: lol idk why but that smiley seemed to fit it lol.
Racing: I personally love PGR3 because its so real and I'm so good at it. NFS:MW is also a pretty good game if you like to just run from the po po. Another suprisingly good racing game is Full Auto if you just like to race around and blow shit up, it ran my attention span for quite awhile.
Sports: Madden 06 sucks bad, NCAA Football 07 is pretty good. FIFA was actually a game I really enjoyed, but I have heard that there have been better soccor games.
Shooters: COD2 I loved to death, have all achievements for it. It is a bit of a sniperfest, but if you sit your ass down like everyone else in the game, it can get pretty intense. GRAW fosho, Dead Rising I heard was pretty good, Hitman is ok.
Others: Well everyone seems to like Oblivion....also seems everyone who likes Oblivion likes WoW too. Chromehounds is suppose to be kick ass, so my friend says all day. Other games, move at your own risk.
I highly recomend buying a 360 and getting XBL, just the trial for that matter. Its not only the gaming experience, its also all the crap you can do on it and everything you can download.
BUGGER rates it: Two thumbs up!

My primary concern with buying a 360 would be that the Wii and the PS3 are just around the corner. I would hate to invest in something that is going to be outstripped faster then I can blink.

I really bet the PS3 will probably look better, maybe not by much until the game developers push the system to the max. The fact that it costs so much to get what you need is total bogus. Maybe a year, two tops, it'll drop down to where teh poor can afford.
Nintendo being Nintendo, I'd wait that one out to see if what they say is really what they say. I pray that the Wii will be great. However I bet it will cost way less than both of its compeditors and the price will ever drop.
I, personaly, think that the PS3 will be outrunned by the Xbox and Wii's online markets. I haven't heard much about what the PS3 has in store (granted I never look), but they are all talk.
My thoughts:
A trusty assumption, wait for the Wii. It'll come out small, but Nintendo is known to revolutionize.
PS3 better drop their balls. Period.

I just rented chromhounds. Already beat it. Very short, but extremely sweet. I like the sniper storyline the best, and the xbox live play is da shit.

From what I heard the Live play for Chromehounds is where it's at....
