View Full Version : Disable In-game advertisements

Okay, I have had ENOUGH with these nonstop ingame advertisements. It's not that they are annoying by their own, but they loop OVER and OVER and OVER nonstop which eat my head while I'm waiting for my HART to arrive. I pay my $12.99 a month and I believe I deserve to play this game without having to put up with annoying advertisements.
Well it took me about an hour of reading, researching and a little bit of packet sniffing to get this to work, but finally I can play this game without advertisements.
Okay, onto the real deal, to remove the advertisements just follow these steps.
Go into the windows/system32/drivers/etc/ directory and open up the file called "hosts" with notepad.
In that file add these four lines in:
0.0.0.0 madserver.net
0.0.0.0 ad.madserver.net
0.0.0.0 imp.madserver.net
0.0.0.0 media.madserver.net
And the next time you start up planetside there will be no more annoying ads... ever.
Ok, for those who are a bit more curious I'll explain what this does and why it blocks the advertisements. The four hostnames listed above is where the game goes to retrieve the ads and therefore display them. The hosts file is a bit like the computer's own domain name server that tells the IP of the domain name before it accesses the domain name server itself. So when it looks in the hosts file to see if that domain name is listed, it finds the ip 0.0.0.0 and attempts to connect to it. Since 0.0.0.0 isn't a valid ip, it cannot connect to it and therefore cannot retrieve or display any ads.
To the administrators: Sorry if this is against the site rules, but I seriously am getting pissed at these ads, and I think other people are too.

why would anyone use the hart in the first place. i understand that there might occur special circumstances once in a bluemoon that hart is the faster way, but it seems you use the hart often.

The only alternative to the HART shuttle is planes... because, taking into account the terrain features and warpgate distances, I bet that there are numerous instances where using the HART shuttle gets you there faster than with a ground vehicle...

Hart isn't the only place with Ads.
I use the hart, especially if I want to get into a position to OS without being hunted down by AA and other planes.

There's a simple solution though: Just mute Planetside's sounds until you board the shuttle, you have more than ample time (there's a clock to tell you when it comes... real hard...).

You realize what you are doing to PlanetSide by disabling the ads right? You are contributing to it's demise. PlanetSide isn't exactly a top shelf game in the first place so the revenue pretty low to support continued development, depriving them of advertising revenue is adding to an already low return will only hurt development more. I assume that if you are still playing the game today you must love PlanetSide, I don't know why you would want to contribute to it's death.

xMars, don't you do anything else but whine all the time? LOLOLOLOLOL
If there are ads ingame, it's fine by me as long as they don't get into the way of the action.

That is exactly my point, and removing the ads will only help kill all remaining support. Looks to me like you got blinded by wrongly focusing on what you believe my use of the word development was intended to convey.
SOE hasn't replaced the Dev team with ill-tempered mutated sea bass yet? Thought they did that after Sporkfire left the team.
