pretty well I imagine. You might want more ram, but you wouldn't need it. (I'm a RAM freak. )

I highly suggest having 1 gig of ram for this game, especially if you like much higher resolutions.

MMOs kill the ram, and I mean absolutely kill the ram.

How much would a 512 RAM cost? How much would a good Graphics Card cost too? One that could run the game reasonably well. Not minimum specs.

If your computer is compatable:
GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/ 128MB RAM: $147.99 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=14-123-119&depa=1)
Cheap PC2100 DDR RAM, 512MB stick: $62.50 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=20-144-001&depa=1)

They are links, feel free to click them

RAM currently runs about $60-70 for a 512 stick of PC2100 w/ guaranteed lifetime waranty. Add about $10 for PC2700.

Yeah I'm runnin a AMD 2000xp ATM with a Gig of pc2700 to back it up....

Anyone out there tried out the 3000+ is it any good, or worth my time to bother with the Upgrade?

Just curious

If you're computer can handle it (not a lot of motherboards are compatable with that, although the RAM is backwards compatable, so you would never no you got no improvement :p ). You may be better off just getting expensive RAM (Latency 2-2-2 stuff), over upgrading though, ESPECIALLY if you are an overclocker.

That stuff is expensive though, really expensive. You will probably spend 2x as much for a stick of it.

How about this:

Athlon 1.0ghz
256mb PC2100 Crucial
Radeon 9000pro
Win98SE
30GB Maxtor 5400rpm

And some opinion: lets say I had US$150-$200 to spend on upgrading for the release of PS, what should my priorities be and how high should I go? and if I had unlimited funds (well, in reason, I guess $500) what should my priorities be?

Thanks in advance!

PS - I just bought 256 more of ram, but its lameass K-Byte, and I think it actually *slowed* my comp down, so I'm returning it today. I heard somewhere that you should always match your ram sticks for best performance, like crucial with crucial, etc. Truth?

Upgrade your processor and possibly your vid card. Is that a 64mb card?

BurningSpear

vid card? really? i just bought that like 2 months ago! its 64mb ddr

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-20, 02:31 PM
It will run it but this game is more than likely going to strain it quite a bit in big battles. 128mb cards might have problems in large battles as well but we don't know for sure. Processor is a big neccesity though. 1ghz meets the minimum but I suggest getting something faster than that.

Yeah, I figured the cpu was the main bottleneck. AMD's aren't too pricey, either, as long as I'm not looking at the absolute top-of-the-line. I figure XP2000+ or XP2100+ would be enough. I'm comfortable turning some settings down and playing at a smooth 30-40fps. We'll just have to wait and see.

Do you think upgrading the HD and OS would be a benefit? I'm starting to fill up my 30gigs anyway and a lot of the settings are from the old comp that i dug it out of, so i think that might be holding me back, too. And upgrading from 5400rpm to 7200rpm is pretty significant, too, right?

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-20, 03:38 PM
The OS and HD are also something you might want to look at upgrading but it depends on how much you want to spend. For a HD get a Western Digital with the 8mb cache. 80gb/100/120 and I think 200gb all have 8mb cache. Get XP Pro for your OS if you want to upgrade that. You can get it some places for like $150. www.infotechnow.com has it for $139.

Great info, blue zero, thanks.

If I use my comp primarily for gaming, what benefits does XP Pro give me that XP Home wouldn't? Just curious.

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-20, 04:01 PM
There isn't a gigantic difference but XP Pro is designed more for people that need to squeeze every last drop of performance out of their system. Minor differences between home and pro but I find XP pro more stable for gaming.

Actually , 98SE is less of a resource hog then XP-Pro resource wise, but XP-Pro is more stable.
