I know that you generally can't talk to players of a different faction. But does anyone know if battle commanders can get a command cert that allows them to talk to commanders from different factions?

I am guessing that 3 way battles will be prettty common. It would be very useful and interesting if 2 of the commanders could negotiate some kind of temporary cease fire to eliminate the 3rd faction's troops.

(like agreeing not to fire on each other until all of the base defender's tanks and aircrafts have been downed)

They've said nothing about it, and it's doubtful that they'll be able to. Anyway, in DAoC, you can't talk to any people in the other two Realms (it's a 3-way war too) but alliances do happen anyway, either through 3rd party communication, or just a mutual understanding -- one side is too strong, so the others focus their fire on that enemy, and the leader there suggests that nobody attack the other side unless they attack first.

<@CrazyMike> Will people be able to chat between empires or just among thier own empire

<@StrykerPS> Just among their own Empire.

edit:

1. The story of the game is a conflict between all 3 empires. Anything else will be debalancing the gameplay. So crossteaming IS LAME as it is in DAoC.

2. I don't think that there will be a cert for it cause 1. :)

If I'm out on patrol with my outfit and come across 2 empires fighting I'm just going to sit there and let them fight it out. Once one of them wins I'll swoop in kill the rest of them and claim the spoils.

WoooooooooooooHooooooooooooooooo!!!!

I can't wait.

I would ally with the weakest of the other two, then when the stronger one is finished, the weakest should be no problem.

2 on 1s might be a necessity. I am not sure exactly what bonuses you get for holding different buildings, but if one faction's foothold on these bonuses becomes too strong, we might need some colaboration during strikes. It would become a balancing feature if done propperly.

I guess the one flaw with chatting commanders is that a single rogue jerkoff commander could start feeding enemy commanders evil info. So guess a feature like this would be exploitable.

hm .. here is the second part of the answer:

<@SmokeJumperPS> Not via game mechanisms. Actually...that's not quite accurate. You can emote and macro-taunt near an enemy...but no direct chat is possible. People could still use the telephone or a second computer though. And we allow things like Roger Wilco and Battlecom in the game, so it's more of a guideline that you can't talk. Players *should* assume that there are ways for "friendlies" to leak secrets...because there will always be ways for because there will always be ways for them to do it...and therefore, they will.

Rofl @secret emote codes,

One pelvic thrust if by land,

Two pelvic thrusts if by sea.

I am sure you will see some Empire Alliances, at least on the small scale. But there will be no support for it in game.
