NOT GEEKSQUAD! I recently had some serious virus issues that I could not get rid of myself, so I thought "Hey, why dont I have someone else fix it for me? Im better off getting professional help!" Well....professional help isnt exactly what I got. The first guy came about 2 weeks ago, sure he removed the virus, but when he left he failed to mention he didnt properly restore my BIOS, and my computer didnt start up properly. 250$ right there. So a guy came about an hour ago, fixed that problem for free because its a recall. He says "Guess what? YOU NEED TO BUY WINDOWS!!! LOLZ" So 217$ for windows(the company I bought this computer from failed to include a windows disc with all the other stuff" It is working fine now as far as I can tell, but if it starts fucking up again, geeksquad is gonna have my foot up their ass.

I have heard other stories about the geeksquad. Seems they are rather useless.

Awesome.
I applied to geek squad about a year ago to hopefuly make some extra money. Never heard from them - I guess managing an Entire Schools network with hundreds of computers doesn't qualify me to fix Joe Bob's spyware/virus issues.

Of course they didn't call you back, then they might have to raise their standards for the other empolyees and do something other than rip people off.

My neighbors had a geek squad car out front yesterday for several hours. I've been meaning to ask them how badly they were raped.

That's because their recruiting process is flawed to all extremes. My supervisor is engaged to the unit manager, of the best buy, up here. She was telling me how it goes.
first, you have to take that stupid ass, too long application online. Once you finish that (about 40 minutes later), it gets sent in. Takes about a week to be checked. You are then put in one of three categories: Green, Yellow, Red. Green means you are ok to move onto the first interview. Yellow means you are at the discretion of the unit manager, and he can call you in for an interview if he wants too. Red means there is no possible way you can go in for an interview.
To talk about how flawed it is, one of the girls applied for the best buy, up here. she was put into the green category. Just before her interview, something went wrong with the computer's, at their headquarters, and they lost some of the applications (one of them being hers). Now, the only way to get a job, at best buy, is if you are in the computer (which now she was not). They told her she needed to take it again. She has taken it 5 times over, each time with the same answers and information as the first time, and it constantly puts her into the Red category. She has done nothing different.

hamma pwnt? Indeed.
But in all honesty, I know the manager of a local best buy, infact I banged the shit out of her. Anyways, one day I asked her why the geek squad are such a bunch of morons. She said that they litterly dont hire people who have any knowlege about working on computers. They only hire nubs so they can basicly make them do what they want. The squadies think they are doing good, the reality is they have been brain washed to do bad.
PS Yes, I DHITB (past tense)

so basically my computer is still fucked. Maybe one of you guys can help me with the problem. Im getting a blue screen of death that has a Stop Error saying STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xB204ED59, 0xAE3E3A28,0X00000000) It happens after about a minute of being start up, and I get it everytime. It used to be just occasional but now its consistent and is really pissing me off. Im sure someone in here knows more about fixing it than the dumbshits at geek squad.
PS: I got this message AFTER they "fixed" my computer. I was getting that shitty 1 minute countdown virus, so the guy comes and "fixes" it, and now im getting this. I downloaded some no-cd crack for a game and it turned out to not be a no-cd crack, good one eh? I know im stupid :P But yea, any help would be greatly appreciated.

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/DevTest_g/hh/DevTest_g/t05_bugs_60_299217d6-98d1-4d1d-8068-883e89933845.xml.asp).)
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didnt catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
Bug Check 0x8E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug check has a value of 0x0000008E. This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
Parameters
The following parameters are displayed on the blue screen.
Parameter Description
1 The exception code that was not handled
2 The address at which the exception occurred
3 The trap frame
4 ReservedCause
This is a very common bug check. To interpret it, you must identify which exception was generated.
Common exception codes include:
0x80000002: STATUS_DATATYPE_MISALIGNMENTAn unaligned data reference was encountered.
0x80000003: STATUS_BREAKPOINTA breakpoint or ASSERT was encountered when no kernel debugger was attached to the system.
0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATIONA memory access violation occurred.
For a complete list of exception codes, see the ntstatus.h file located in the inc directory of the Windows Driver Kit.
Resolving the Problem
If you are not equipped to debug this problem, you should use some basic troubleshooting techniques. Make sure you have enough disk space. If a driver is identified in the bug check message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you plan to debug this problem, you may find it difficult to obtain a stack trace. Parameter 2 (the exception address) should pinpoint the driver or function that caused this problem.
If exception code 0x80000003 occurs, this indicates that a hard-coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but the system was started with the /NODEBUG switch. This problem should rarely occur. If it occurs repeatedly, make sure a kernel debugger is connected and the system is started with the /DEBUG switch.
If exception code 0x80000002 occurs, the trap frame will supply additional information.
If the specific cause of the exception is unknown, the following should be considered:
Hardware incompatibility. First, make sure that any new hardware installed is listed in the Microsoft Windows Marketplace Tested Products List.
Faulty device driver or system service. In addition, a faulty device driver or system service might be responsible for this error. Hardware issues, such as BIOS incompatibilities, memory conflicts, and IRQ conflicts can also generate this error.
If a driver is listed by name within the bug check message, disable or remove that driver. Disable or remove any drivers or services that were recently added. If the error occurs during the startup sequence and the system partition is formatted with NTFS file system, you might be able to use Safe Mode to rename or delete the faulty driver. If the driver is used as part of the system startup process in Safe Mode, you need to start the computer by using the Recovery Console to access the file.
If the problem is associated with Win32k.sys, the source of the error might be a third-party remote control program. If such software is installed, the service can be removed by starting the system using the Recovery Console and deleting the offending system service file.
Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing bug check 0x1E. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve the error. You should also run hardware diagnostics, especially the memory scanner, supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.
The error that generates this message can occur after the first restart during Windows Setup, or after Setup is finished. A possible cause of the error is lack of disk space for installation and system BIOS incompatibilities. For problems during Windows installation that are associated with lack of disk space, reduce the number of files on the target hard disk. Check for and delete any unneeded temporary files, Internet cache files, application backup files, and .chk files containing saved file fragments from disk scans. You can also use another hard disk with more free space for the installation. BIOS problems can be resolved by upgrading the system BIOS version.
Since its on the kernel level, possibly you need to get updated drivers or perhaps an antivirus program is not happy.
Hope this helps.

Or go see a licensed technician. Can't be too hard to find one. Find an independant computer shop with a good reputation and you should be fine. That, or keep calling the idiots who can't fix shit. They should charge you nothing for callbacks but still... doesn't mean the problem will be fixed.

Possible that virus has seriously fucked up something in your system files. Did you try running a repair install on Windows? And I assume the virus is gone?
