what engine is it running on, who is producing it? any distributors? there is ZERO information about this game... I've seen half assed half life one mods with an angel fire web page present better than this.

Kudos to them for bitching and moaning AND actually doing something about it... but so far this looks like a train full of shit heading to nowheresville.

and my god does thier backstory and concept suck. I would sue them so bad if I was sony just because it feels like they didn't even try to change anything from PS...

There is really no way a player driven staff can run an MMO, at least not one of normal size. There are server ops teams on staff 24/7 and developers 7 days a week working on MMO's.

Lost Colony is moving right along as most of you know from the new screenshots we've posted this week. Some of you even asked us for the floor plan to the bases, but unfortunately we've been really too busy to provide that.

We will be hosting a small playtest this weekend. We don't know which day yet. NOTE: This is not the BETA. This test will be:

A simple test to check our networking code
Account process module
For clients to test their video cards
Server tests to find out how many people we can fit on one continent
This will not be the full game. The new female and male player models will be available. One vehicle will be available. You will also get a chance to see your homebase and its designed floor plan.

The test is tomorrow, Sunday. We are going to run it at around 3pm ET (I think that's 8pm UK, 2pm CT, 12pm PT). We will keep it running for the entire evening. There will be plenty of time to get in there.

After spending about 20 minutes filtering through ugly color schemes and horribly butchered spelling I have concluded, Hamma, that this "play test" is free to any registered person on their forums. They just haven't given a link to download it yet. If such a link were to exist, that is.

This "game" seems very fishy to me. They keep making excuses after excuses.

I was looking around and found a post from one of their staff.
We are able to do this because the majority of the game will be run off of the server and not on your rig. You'll have about 20Mb or so of files on your system and the rest is server-side. You will notice a difference in how the game looks if you compare it form a lower spec to a higher spec computer. And the better the rig the better the frame-rate. And we are focusing on getting you the highest frame-rate possible first. Does that make sense?
Now, this really scares me. If this guy thinks you can run a moderate game off of 20 megabytes (assuming thats what he meant), he's bonkers. Since he said 20 megabits that means the game will from 2.5 megabytes.

And apparently they host their game server on the same server as their website. :rolleyes:

And they say all of their content is original; they directly reference PlanetSide in regards to the lattice links.

So I downloaded their "compatibility" test. And so much for the game being original... they stole ideas from PlanetSide; they bought models and they bought their engine. So far they've pretty much created a crappy mod for a game and added network capabilities.

And they've included some of their source code. Thats probably gonna bite them in the butt when someone finds their code in it without credit.

And apparently one of the staff wanted to close the forums and only let people that has pre-ordered to have access to them. Wtf? And this was the idiot that cried cause he was stupid enough to post his name and number online and got calls from pissed off people because they can't follow a deadline.

So apparently their game server and web server are on differently servers but on the same network and their hub crashed. And then when they lost connection to their game server; it became corrupt and they lost their latest work.

I guess a lot of people have fallen for this scam, they seem to have lots of money to have a server hosted at a remote location. Never mind, the company they chose must suck if their network crashed after a couple hundred people tried to download a file.

Even if they actually produce something that works, I don't see how they can keep it up and add all the features they are promising. I'd love to see how they manage 5 versions of the game (PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3), 6 APIs (DirectX 9 & 10, OpenGL, OpenAL, Xbox 360 DirectX, whatever PS3 uses). And in case they didn't know, coding for a console is only a couple hundred times harder and costs a lot more. And not to mention all of the graphical features they say.

So assuming this isn't a big scam and they are actually trying, it won't last past a couple of weeks before people realize its crap and their loyal fans leave. And some of their fans are pretty stuck up and refuse any logical assessment of this game's future.

And anyone wanna bet that they don't have a legitimate copy of vBulletin?

The Dev kits for Xbox/PS are extremly expensive alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't legit. You have to pay a pretty hefty sum to hide the vBulletin Copyright info.

Update on what their staff has actually done.

I certainly would like to beleive what SOS is telling us. The problem I am having is there is still to much evidence to lead me to believe otherwise. If you go to torque's site you will see that the level the SOS claimed to have worked hours on is actually a demo level included in the license for the torque engine. Also, if you do some research on the server you will find that it is only set to allow 64 people. Doesn't sound like much of a stress test to me. Also included in the license is the networking features to set the demo up to allow people to log in. So far the only new thing that I have seen them acutally make is the login in screen and imported, prebuilt models. Oh, and a base with one small door to get in. Doesn't sound like a very exciting fight for it.
