As I mentioned in the Merry Christmas thread I should be getting an old geo metro from my grandparents soon. The only problem is that the car failed smog tests and can not be transfered until it is fixed up to pass them. It would cost $200 just to figure out what the problem was and an unknown amount to fix it. The car is not worth that much so this would probably be the end of it. Does any one know of any loopholes or other ways to transfer ownership on a car that can't pass its smog tests?
Btw I live in California if state laws effect this... which im sure they do.

California is the most strict state when it comes to smog testing. There have been crackdowns to stop people from bypassing the system..
Your best bet is to either bite the bullet and fix it or drive it to the junkyard.
