I haven't been able to install a single program on my computer for a while now. I don't know why though. About a month ago, I reformatted my computer, and still no luck. There is always one file that doesn't want to seem to install on my computer.

My friend and I were thinking about it the other day and I came up with a thought that maybe it was my CD drive, and if I got another one it could work. I just don't have the money right now for one, but I was wondering if this happened to anyone else, or maybe just someone could give me a reason why this would happen.

Could you post an error message? Does the drive's motor continually rev up and rev down?

sometimes it revs up and down, but now all the time..

Typically, you load the CD. It revs up for a minute then goes back to normal. When it keeps reving it cant read the CD.

If the drive keeps reving up all the time, reguardless of the CD. The drive is likely dead.

Some times when I try to install games, I get a corrupted file. I change the install location, and it installs fine.

It's not a corrupted file anymore.

My computer is over 5 years old now. The only thing I did to it was put in a new video card about 3 years ago.

Anyone have suggestions for a good, cheap, and fast drive that I could buy?

I would check the Circuit Cities and Best Buys. I work at Circuit City and if its strictly a web only special, without rebates. They usually price match it.
