Personally the history on its too sketchy, every single book and every single website all has different answers and numbers, some say it was like 5000 greeks vs a couple thousand persians, some say it was 1000 vs 1.7 million, some say 5.6million( This is what a Persian commander had said there original strength was) and then others say it was in the 300k-800k range, I know the movies based on Frank Millers book which is more novel then history but still, stuff like this bothers me when I can never know the truth.

The book is just a loosely historical work, it's much more about courage and duty etc. than providing an accurate depiction.

I have a hard time believing much in history, specially history that old. its all just educated guessing based on bits and pieces....

Then again I have a hard time believing recent history too... y'know what with us being "free" yet we get censored.

Well gee thanks!
Now let's look at the number of dead people in the WTC attacks... at first it was what? 5000? Now it's down to what? 2000 ish?
History has never and will NEVER be accurate. There will always be some dumbass playing with the timeline wether it's in books or in a computer.

There is a famous line in a John Wayne movie. "If the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
It is true that a lot of history is more legend then fact. But, there is a lot of History that is true. You just need to read the right books. Ones by those people you have never heard of, not the famous people.
Regardless of the number, this movie looks really good. I just saw the preview on TV, which means it is getting closer. I am excited to see this movie. I am still trying to figure out what that big fat thing, with the blades for hands, is..

In the book, the reject Spartan who ends up being the traitor is horridly deformed, no doubt because of his role in the story. However, besides him, there's no fat guy with blades, so I'm not sure who he is.

I just purchased the book. :brow: Will read up on it but from what I saw in the previews and what I saw in the book it's gonna be a Frank Miller experience. Woot!

I was trying to explain the premise of the movie to one of my co-workers. She turned to me and said, "Boy, you do know your wars." I said to her, when you've been in as many as I have you have to know them. I then started to tell her of how the Fighting Dragonwolves on Auraxis stopped an invasion cold by holding one solitary tower for more than 4 hours.
I then put on Gio's tin-foil hat to keep "Them" away.

Anyways I read the thing. It's an amazing story. Frank miller is a god. Also, I do beleive not every battle was depicted in the book. The producer is working with Frank miller on the movie so I expect it was his idea to bring in the same creature.
