Bittorrent tracker PirateBay.org, currently based in Sweden, plans to purchase the man-made island-country, Sealand, off the coast of the UK. Sealand is its own country, and the PirateBay would not be subject to the jurisdiction of any nations if it relocated to the island. TPB is seaking donations to help go through with this plan.

If they buy it, wouldn't they have to name it New Sealand?

Bad pun, I know.

Apparently this sealand costs 2 billion bucks.

I doubt Pirate Bay could even raise that kind of capitol.

It would rock if it did.

It's not recognized by any other country and England insists that it belongs to them still(It's not in international waters, England extened it's waters to 12 nautical miles a while back according to some treaty). There is also no way in hell they will ever raise the money.

I'm calling biggest scam ever.

Technically Sealand was occupied and declared sovreignty before the UK extended it's waters to the area surrounding sealand.

No one recognized it as a state before(or after) the territory was extended. So when it was extened Sealand was taken with it, according to the technicalities.

Also: the UK navy technicaly still owns the ship Sealand is on, and her majesty's crown technicaly owns the land the ship rests on and can have it removed whenever.

The most important thing is that no country worth anything is going to object if the UK raids TPB's servers. And if they try to defend it, very few people that matter will take issue with the UK blowing them up.

Wtf is it even, I was thinking it was going to be an actual island or something, its 2 fucking pillars supporting half a football field. Thats gay so Im gonna hope this is all a joke. Theres MUCH bigger islands(actual islands mind you) that are for sale for like 2-20 million which would be alot more realistic. These people had to be doing this as a joke/scam

Why not put all the servers on a big old boat and float it in the middle of the atlantic? International waters ftw?

What if REAL pirates came and attacked the "Pirates" boat and stole the servers tho? Then we'd have a pirate war on our hands which could start wwIII.

Fascinating to see criminals attempting to legitimize their theft in such a manner. I hope in this case, England (or hell, hold on for it, the UN) can find some small insect, or critter that is "endangered" and claim control and deny these criminals a place to operate outside the control of law.

There really is nowhere you can operate outside the law on this plant, as proven in recent history we just re-write the laws to go after you.

Yes but I added the wwIII part too it after I stole your thought. You simply mentioned the stealing servers. Speaking of this thread I was looking at Islands you could buy the other day, Im curius as to why more movie stars dont own islands actually, cause I fucking would indeed.
