I dicked around for a good half hour and got no where trying to rip a song off of a band's myspace page.

I think Audacity should be able to do it, but I am unable to get it to record the sound comming from my speakers instead of the sound comming from my mic.

Btw, the song I am trying to rip is the devils got a hold of me off this page.

if you have a male-male audio cable, just plug one end of it into the line out, and one into the mic or line in port. Make sure you have no background noises that could interrupt (Messenger, AIM, whatever), then fiddle with the volume so that the recording volume isnt too loud, and record it. This is much easier to do if you have a splitter that you can use coming out of the line out port, so you can actually hear the music as it's playing, and you wont have to reconnect your speakers/headphones every time you want to sample the quality.

Plugging a line out to the microphone socket is an easy way of blowing the socket :(

And doesn't setting your recording device in your mixer settings to "What you hear" help?

I read the FAQ off of the audacity page. The mixer drop down menu was greyed out in the release version I tried. I then downloaded the beta version. The drop down bar for changing device imput settings was there in this version. However I tested each setting and they all took audio from my USB mic as opposed to from my speaker output.

Edit: I have found the MP3 by other means. However I still want to figure out how to rip music off of myspace. It could come in handy.
