View Full Version : AGN: PS Chat - Outfit Roundtable
Marsman
2003-02-19, 12:35 PM
Attn: Outfits - AGN's Planetside Chat will be having an Outfit Roundtable scheduled for Friday Feb 28th at 8:30p EST.
What we would like to have is 3 or 4 outfit leaders/representitives from each of the empires to kick around a few outfit related topics. Outfits leaders wishing to participate should PM Marsman or Hamma. Please include the name of your outfit, empire, any information about your outfit you feel is relevant, and any topic suggestions for discussion you might have. Also the community can post topic suggestions here that you would like to hear the outfit leaders/representitives discuss.
Should be a good time. We'll post the final list of outfits and the representitive's names as soon as the list is final. :)

Sounds interesting. How will you pick the outfits included? Size or age or first come, first serve?
Marsman
2003-02-19, 12:48 PM
Well, pretty much first come first serve, although preference would probably be given to the larger well know outfits as they represent a larger cross section of that empire's community. We'll see who wants to participate first and how many responses we get.

How could they not let Spock in? There's no way! Absolutely no way! If not then you can "presuade" Marsman with your advance telepathy.

I doubt Warrior Nation will participate but I'll kick around the idea with the other guys...I don't think we want a lot of attention until PlanetSide is actually in stores.

A reminder to PM either Marsman or Hamma for those who wish to participate. I'm gathering the list from the PM's so don't just make a post here. Community and Outfit suggestions for topics are welcome in this post however. Thanks. :D

Just an idea, but maybe the outfit leaders/reps could talk about a possable outfit cap( for members, and when if the dev team does not make one offical, maybe the large outfits in all empires could agree on, so no outfit becomes to large)
I think Id like to see a good amount of outfits, instead of smaller ones getting ingulfed by larger ones.

For the Q&A: Will there be an alliance for the outfits to combine together (ala DAoC)?

Perhaps the best way to select the outfits involved will be to allow any who are interested have a representative member submit a few questions/suggestions/a short essay or something to see what they have to bring to the discussion. I'd much rather see an infomative exchange of ideas than fifty fanboys asking about 'rideable dragons' or somesuch. (sorry, Ultima Online forum inside joke)
Oh, and by the way, the member cap for outfits, while not without it's drawbacks is the best fraggin' idea I've heard in a while. Perhaps not a cap, but some other way of limiting an uber-guild's power... some sort of CP/BEP gain reduction based on number of members online maybe?
And just for my Vanu-flavored vote, The Vindicators!

I was wondering if there can be a way to show an alliance in-game, (dont know if that is what you ment omni) .... I dont think that that will happen outside of platoons, etc, but if so that I wonder if you can declare new temp leaders of the alliance to go back and forth, like General dies, the other sides general takes over, he dies, back to the 1st group, etc That would be nice.
Also, just a BTW, if when you die, can you set it to auto grab the next highest outfit rank, or do you have to specify who gains cmd after a death. I know that this probably depends on them making it uniform outfit ranks, but wondering even if they dont can you specify if the next in cmd is just going to be like "find general" if no general, "find Colonel" if no colonel... etc etc etc...
Also how popular is the idea of uniform ranks in game? I would go for it, so long as it made sense and wasnt like having 50 diff ranks, or only 3 ranks or something. How do the other Leaders feel about this?

Nice one omnipotentkiwi also another question: What is the process for creating an outfit / administering and outfit going to be like. Can we possibly have some screen shots of the interface for creating your outfit etc?

I'd still like to see some sort of communication between leaders of outfits in seperate factions. i.e. in case the VS have locked down a continent, or are about to, the TR and NC can band together, albeit temporarily, and combine forces to fight back the VS.
MrVulcan
2003-02-21, 12:14 PM
I think that that will happen by itself, no need to talk to anyone, if you see a one thats locked, wouldnt you try and get it unlocked? I think that once one is locked, both sides will hit it hard over and over again, at different spots from here to the moon, it will be very hard to keep it locked.

The Hawks Which is now a large part of the well known and well orginized NCCT which if you don't know has a lot of Outfits united together and the Hawks as well. We actully have held little topics like this discussing such things as base placement, possible attacks on a lock down base and such. So Hawks would like to attend and we do appeal to a very large crowd.

Oh!
I wonder if the devs will let us pre-register outfit names during, or before the open beta or something, so that the outfit names will not be taken by rand people once the game comes out.
It would be quite annoying to have to change your name the 1st day the game comes out just because someone just got the game and decided he would create an outfit that had the same name as yours, and you already have a large amount of people that have been using that name for months...

i dont belive that my outfit is large enough to have a rep. go but even so there are a lot of questions about how exactly an outfit would work in game, and how to creat squads within the outfit that would provide different essentials such as Assualt, Recon, Infiltration, Support, ect. How would you get the different squads to react when u need them 2 inorder to get the mission done right for a higher chance of success. Also the opcenter needs to have like outfit management tools that actually let you see ur members rank, and then splits then in "recon force" if thats what their squad within ur outfit is named. I still think that there should be like outfit bases within the game, that like towers have like a symbol for ur outfit if u get permission from your empire to create a base of operations and that way it would be harder to capture diifernt towers as they are controlled by outfits who want to keep their bases.

Well, since there are not a lot of questions out there for those Outfit Leaders (that get chosen) I will post some. And yes Mars if you read my PM I did say I would let the community post questions but since there are not too many I might as well help
1. Which Empire is your Outfit Fighting for and Why?
2. How did you come up with your Outfit Name?
3. Which server is your Outfit planning to fight on and Why?
4. Are you going to allow anyone in your Outfit or will you have some requirements?
5. Is there going to be a Cap on the amount of players you let in your Outfit? If yes why/ if no why?
6. Why should anyone join your Outfit?
7. What makes you a Leader? What Experience or Qualifications do you have?
8. Do you have anything you want to say to the other Outfit Leaders in your Empire?
9. Do you have anything you want to say to the other Outfit
Leaders that are in the other Empires?
10. WHAT SIDE!!!!????? (sorry I could not resist)

I do have one sort of idea; a type of "blacklist".
Seeing as there are only a few servers people can play on, griefers could be a more potent problem. I'm not talking about TKing, because this can be picked up by the grief point system, but other forms of grief such as swearing, spamming etc., and mainly being a bastard ;p
So, if outfits have a big problem with a certain person, his/her name could be posted on this "blacklist", and the details could be made available to anyone who genuinely wanted to find out about them. This would be useful for outfits wanting to check up on the history of a recruit - to make sure they won't do anything untrustworthy.
This system could also be used in the other extreme; people looking for an outfit to join could enter themselves into a database, with details etc. Then outfits looking for members could choose certain criteria such as location, age, preferred ps role, and then be presented with a list of people who match these.
Just some ideas to discuss =]

Well I understand where you are coming from, but I do not think that would work.
People would get posted on that for innocent things, I could see that list going on 4ever after a few days of playing. Someone would get mad at someone else, tell his friends what he "did" and so on, and poof he is on the blacklist.
Nope, I think that it should be just on what you actually do, not on what someone thinks of you. What if the griefers just started trying to put you on the black list since you put one of them there? I think that we should stick to real values. I think that Griefers will be easy enough to find the way it is.

I agree with the Vulcan on this one.
Don't like the idea of a blacklist, but I do like the idea of flagging yourself looking for an outfit.

You probably can, there are ways to find folks who meet your needs in game. Outfit/squad leaders can search for folks who meet certain criteria.

So when will the Outfit Leaders be notified if they are going to be apart of the Roundtable.

2003-02-23, 07:21 PM
We're going to take requests for participation in the upcoming Planetside Chat: Outfit Rountable until Monday. So if your Outfit wants to participate - get myself or Hamma a FORUM pm no later than Monday. The final list will be posted shortly after.
There have been 20 requests so far, only 3 are TR, half dozen or so NC and VS, some undeceided and some all 3 - the latter two I hadn't considered in my initial thinking or 3 to 4 per empire. We will probably bump up the total count to account for these catagories.

Well strangely enough this tends to happen amongst guilds/clans/outfits without building in a mechanism in game to manage it. I've been in plenty of RPG guilds that would keep a formal list of people they had trouble with and why. Most times it was just a special thread in the outfits private forums, sometimes it was something else.
I really don't think the devs should worry about building an in-game mechanism for it though.

I would have to agree with Mike here. heh, someone who doesent belong could end up on that list and end up with a bad experience in game.
Where if outfits and squads keep their own list, at least this person is not known to the entire empire if its a mistake :x

Agreed, I have been blacklisted by a guild because one one persons twisted sense of morals, that I apparently broke. The guild itself was rude to me in any form of contact, when I did something that a majority of people would have considered perfectly fine. Official in game blacklists sounds like a bad idea.

I would really love to see Select Few in that chat, we could use the star-moment to really show others what kind of gaming group we have to offer, not just PS, but other games as well.
The new site is done guys, take a look, enjoy! =)
