I have a question about the speed of combat. Is it extremely fast such as quake or is it slower like halo?

I will tell you its pretty fast from when I played back in dec.

As for folks in beta, they are under NDA and cant' say.

Plus the fact they dont get in game till saturday ;)

You take any chance to rub it in that you got to play, don't you?

Watch some vids. They give a very good example of speed. BTW..Reavers are FAST...How fast are the mosquitos? Jeez....Also, it's slower than T2 but faster than Bf1942..(sorry for comparisons, but hard to get an understanding by being told if there are none again..sorry)

Yes..but is it slower than Tribes2 if Tribes2 didn't have jetpacks?

actually, from looking at those vids, it looks to be a little bit slower than BF, which is a good thing

allows for more strategy

Yeah, seemingly. From what I saw it is a little. Battles more strategic so they take more time often.

I can agree partially but often BF!942 was a waiting game, waiting fo the enemy tnaks to move or a clearing to open to rush out and unprone after hiding behind a hill for 5 minutes. BUT, at the same time it's much larger and not as clumped often. Hmmmm..We need to see a big battle of over 100 people

eternity = running towards a vehicle in 1942 on the otherside of your base.

No kidding. I oftentimes feel like the guy from Monty Python: The Search (Quest?) for the Holy Grail when he's rushing the castle guards. It almost seems like the damn things are going further away from you and then you realize that someone has already taken it and you're left to walk to the nearest battle.

I was refferring to the combat, once you get into a battle its fast paced.

Running around your base takes a bit hehe

That was one thing I didn't like about CS, idiots who figured oh well hell.. I'll just respawn in the next round... might as well rush the defenders and take out as many as possible... I like strategy, and real simulation... which is why I like the 'you have to wait a while before you respawn, and you dont respawn near a battle...unless your captain made the spawn point' I hope this game doesn't have the rushers who figure it's just a game and I'll respawn the next round might as well kill all i can

well, it is going to have that, because that is a strategy. But I don't see that being a *highly* used strategy. You will definitely see some variety.

I am tribes2 fanatic, and I see Tribes2 strats and tactics making a good transition. Heavy voice comms, timed attacks, clearly defined roles. These are the three aspects that keep me from any other FPS out there.

If you can convince me another game has these features, I will go out and buy it next week.

PS- siggy removed by admin for being too big? i need to make a new one to reflect PS, anyway, so thanks, admin. :)

Check out the free mod for Half-Life that's been gaining steam lately called Natural Selection:

Clearly defined roles and team play is a necessity. Uses the same built-in speech as CounterStrike.

Fun stuff.

Often the rushing in has to do with net code. I know in Global Operations, the net code favors someone who rushes in over someone who sits and waits.

Example: if you know an enemy is around a corner and knows where you are, you will find more success if you run around the corner first instead of waiting for them to come for you. This is even with cone of fire penalties for moving. The combat system just favors the one who jumps out first.
