View Full Version : The Lounge Accord

Airlift

We the undersigned do hereby declare our intent to stay the hell out of political debate threads on the lounge. We will not start or participate in these threads, nor will we post off-topic political remarks in other Lounge threads. We knowingly and willingly make this decision without administrative edict or peer solicitation. It is our hope that in curbing the proliferation of soapboxery, we will make the PSU forums a better place for all.

We agree to face the penalty of severe forumicular sanctions and unilateral verbal response if we break this accord, regardless of the circumstances. We further agree that soapboxery and forumicular are both perfectly cromulent words.

It is not the intent of this accord to silence anyone's opinion, and we will not under the authority of this accord try to coerce others to stop posting political threads. We the undersigned mofos are simply done with it.

I don't really get involved in political threads for the same reason I don't get involved in religious threads. It all ends up the same, two or three people end up arguing and then it basically turns into a pointless flame war.

I'll sign that too btw.

Is this like a UN sanctions, where if the need presents itself I can actually do what I want for the next 12 years? Sorry.

Hobbits are a peaceful folk, all they want is to eat and be left alone. We need to take a lesson from the Hobbits.

I cannot resist posting my reply to a political subject, therefore, I cannot sign. I know you mean well, but I would not be able to abide by it.

It really is pointless in the end. You're never going to change the other person's mind and it all ends up the same. When people run out of factual evidence to support their side of the argument they resort to insulting the person they are arguing with or their immediate family or the country they happen to live in. It's sad but true.

Only way to settle an argument is with a game of rock em sock em robots!

American politics will be irrelevent to this community just as soon as open beta rolls around. You may as well try to get past it now, because it will be drowned out by red blue and purple.

Acctualy, I think there was one guy who did change is position on something, and posted it publicly on the forums. I know that you can't change the minds of the very vocal ones, but you can have an effect on the quieter types that just read the thread. Thats the real point of a debate, not to change your opponents mind, but rather place your position in a higher place amungst the audience.

Yeah, these things only pop up when there's no new news.

It's not the quiet ones that insult you/your family/your country when they can no longer back up their argument.
