it really sucks that i wont be able to play PS until it comes out and maybe not even then cause i'm not 18. But i think that that entire 18 thing is totally absurd. Especially because the beta will probably be on Kazaa in a few days

Lie about your age.

Hello?!! It's not a big deal. Just ask your parents to fill it out or something. As far as I know, it isn't illegal for a parent to get the beta, but you play it.

You may be able to get the beta on KaZaA, but they might send out an account name and password to all open beta guys, maybe not tho.

my parrents are sticks in the mud. They don't care about games, and they wouldn't do a favor for me. This especially sucks, cause in a few weeks, i wont be able to do frickin anything, cause of my stupid grades

Actually, if you meet the specs I would say 80%. If you don't, probably around 50%.

The 18 thing is only for the NDA, which only applies to beta.

Great, you download the client from Kazaa, now where do you get an account?

When the game comes out, if they get the T rating they are hoping for (which they probably will), you will have to be 13 to buy the game, not 18.

Actually, if your parents sign up for the Beta and they sign the NDA (which they have too) and you play the game instead of the signee of the NDA, your parents (or the person whom signed for you) is in violation of the agreement. Only the person whom signed the NDA can play the program.

If lie about your age; you get to play...and they find out.

Watch out, legal beagle.

what? what do you mean by 'they find out'?

it seems if you lie about your age then theres nothing they can do to validate it. i guess.

Cross reference the name with other online apps. I'm sure they have their ways. Otherwise, how would they enforce the 18 yr. or older deal? They have to have something in place. If not, then the agreement means nothing. Anyone could sign up. SOE lawyers would not like this. It's a liability.

well what do you think about all the pr0n sites with 18 or older warnings on them?

Flameseeker
2003-02-23, 08:09 PM
How could they find out who was playing the computer? Signing up doesn't dispatch a surveilance team to your house does it? Is my room bugged? I seriously doubt that only whoever signs up can play.

I'll probauly get a boot in my ass for asking this but where do I sign up?

Hellsfire123
2003-02-23, 09:19 PM
<kicks bighoss> www.planetside.com not the actual site, but it changes to the station sony site.

Anyone ever think they might trace your IP? Look at your accounts from that ip? 2 accounts for 16-17 and one for 22 that has only signed up for beta.....hmmm.....not accepted. If your parents sign you up and let you play they are in violation. If you lie about your age and sign up, and are cuaght......ouch. Heres an idea, wait another 2 weeks for a more stable gaming environment and then play. Open beta will not just be guys playing. It will be stress testing, patches and alot of annoying little things to report.

They should allow an option for you parents to co-sign, but other then that if your parent signed up there is no way for them to catch you, not to mention I don't think they'd care because that doesn't violate the spirit of the rule, the only reason the 18 yyear old rule is there is for the NDA, but if your parent signed it they still have someone to hold responsible if you spill the beans so i can't imagine that they would hunt you down

lie ur asses off. the whole reason they want u to be 18 is thats how old u legally have to be to sign a contract. i doubt anyone who's running the ps beta is going to care if ur not 18. just dont violate the contract and ur fine.

There's not too many ways they can trace signups...IP tracing won't work because of the hundreds of ISPs with dynamic IP systems. They can't cross-reference it with anything they don't own unless you expressly give permission to those other companies to disclose your information or they obtain a court order. About the only thing they could do is make a guess, anything else would require a huge output of resources on their part. If your parents signed up, about the only thing they could do is dispatch a team to watch your house to make sure only your parents used the computer, and that's so horrendously illegal it's not funny. Bottom line-if you did sign up under a fake name or something, you shouldn't be worried, but you probably shouldn't have done that just for safety's sake.

There is no way they can no about your age unless they include spyware with the beta that monitors computer activity. you could just run a spyware removing program if they did that tho.

just a quick question if anyone can answer (doesnt deserve a new thread and kinda goes with this topic)...

Can you look over the NDA again after you've signed up once?I cant find a link or anything.
Or would you just have to make a fake account and go read it but not submit the application for beta.

What is the point of a legally binding contract if they can't enforce it?

KeviN
2003-02-24, 09:33 PM
To make you think they can enforce it.

legally binding contract is just a formality. and gives them some security, being that they could sue ur ass if u leaked out info.

They can enforce it just fine even if you say you are 18 but aren't. They could care less about your age, they only care about the NDA itself, and I am pretty sure enough people fear it enough to take it seriously

With the manipulation of state and federal laws though, they could probably nail just about anyone for breaking a NDA, 18 or not. Just because you signed something under 18 doesn't mean it is completely null and void, it just means what they nail you for will possibly be different. Generally depending on the state though if you are over 13 and sign something they can find a way to hold you to it.

no thats not true, if you are under 18 you can legally enter into a contract because the capacity to enter a contract is a rebuttable presumption, which basicly means they assume your capable of entering a contract unless you prove otherwise.

being a minor is a reason for incapacity and if you can prove your under the age of minority (which is 21 in some states btw) the court will automaticly recind the contract, in fact in most states a minor is not required to return the other party to status quo if the consideration (the stuff traded) is damaged or destroyed.

What you may be thinking about is the fact companies are smart and most won't enter into a contract with a minor unless they get a cosigner over the age of majority, in which case they could hold the cosigner to the contract even if the minor balks.

blah blah blah, this has gone on long enough. morally u should always tell the truth. but if u got the balls, lie about ur age and do the contract. if u aint got the balls then dont, but dont complain about no beta for u.

Actually you can be charged for other crimes if they believe you had the mental capacity to understand what you were entering. It depends on state laws, but trust me, in certain states they can get you for it.

it just means they want mature people playing

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-26, 09:36 PM
Has nothing to do with being "mature". Hell I'm over 18 and I'm not very mature :D 18 is the age that you are considered an adult and therefore able to agree to the contract and accept the consequences for breaking a legally binding contract.
