What kind of certs will you guys start out with? And what kinds will you use when you get higher ranked?

The kind used to kill.

You get Battle Experience Points (BEPs) for killing opponents and other battle related things. You get Command Experience Points (CEPs) for leading your squad to victory, which I assume means that you successfully take over a base. BEPs get you certifications so you can use guns and drive vehicles. CEPs opens up a command chat, where you can talk to other commanders of your status. There are 20 levels for BEPs, and 5 levels for CEPs.

You start with standard weapons (pistols, knifes and SMGs) and standard armor (bullet proof vest), you get BEPs from going to battle, BEPs give you lvls which give you cert points. You spend cert points on certifications in armors, weapons and vehicles. Go here (http://www.planetside-universe.com/content.php?p=sdCertInfo) for more information.

I do believe you start off with 2 certs (your choice), and can get 3 or 4 in the VR training area

More like 1-2 in the VR training area. You start with 2 Cert points, and can get to BR3, which is 2 more cert points. With the average cert costing 2-3 points, you will leave with 1-2.

check that out,it has all certs and implants and shows how much they cost

Wow. If that ain't an NDA violation, I dunno what is.

And remember everyone, getting 5-6 cert points from training does not necessarily mean 5-6 certifications. They all cost different amounts.

Lol Molecular, I think that calculator is just a rough guesstimater. It isn't from Beta.

it works for now tho

First i'll get weapons certs (Sniper/Heavy Assault), then I'll go get armor certs (agile armor), then vehicle certs (Basilisk,Galaxy), and last skills (hacking/adv. hacking/ possibly engineering)

SilentCacophony

I think I'll go for sniper, then armour, then either a buggy or a reaver. I want to lead, so I'd like to be able to hang back somewhat and pick people off, while being able to zoom in and out of battle situations. I may go for an automatic though since I also believe in leading from the front.

Moleculor

Personally I'll be taking Certs in this order...

Infiltration (and whatever is required to get me there).
Hacking.
Wraith.
Advanced Hacking.
Engineering.
Combat Engineering.
After that I -may- take a MAX or some weapons certs. Or maybe Galaxy. MAXs and weapons are low priority.

Well I am going to go with either a reaver 1st or grab the phoenix... not usre what one yet... will decide once I get to play the game =) May decide to get the vanguard ASAP though.... one of those 3 for sure....

Flameseeker
2003-02-23, 10:24 PM
I'm grabbing Agile Armor, and then a Gauss Rifle. Next I will pick up Reaver. I will spare you the rest of my plan to become a level 20. :D

I can't decid if I want to go stealth and hack, or get some weapon, armor, and light tank certs and go on the assault. Thank god you can make muiltiple characters and change some certs.

OmnipotentKiwi
2003-02-23, 10:51 PM
Again, I am not worrying about this until points are more certain, since it can completely change how I create my character.

Also, like mentioned before, that cert calculator is a TOTAL guestimate. There is really very little fact behind it other then most certs costs 2-3 points, and there is 1 pre-requisite tops for each cert. Basically it is a template until he has more information.

So there's no advanced weapon specs such as specializing in a specific weapon to improve accuracy or anything? In other words you spend points to use a weapon and that's as far as you can go with that weapon?

It seems like people won't be very specialized at all and everyone will be able to be good at almost everything if that calculator is anywhere close to how it will be.

Saint
2003-02-24, 03:23 AM
The calculator is a guess, certs will be like 3-4 points a piece, you will have to specialize or else you will die.

From looking at said sheet you could become a jack of all trades, and master at none. Or you could specilise say like a pilot, or a ***** and be much more useful. Cause what good is flying a galaxy when you can't fix it. Some times a sunderer will need cover, and the galaxy won't be able to do that real well. If your ship gets wacked and you punch out. Your gonna need a weap/armor combo to make it back alive

Everyone's probably going to want to have agile and probably medium armor, simply because it gives you the versatility to do almost anything because of the ability to use lots of weapons. Hacking would also be good for anyone who's not going max and plans to be infantry. However, according to Hamma, I believe, you can get about half the certs with the 21 points you get, so you can specialize in something and then dabble in a little bit of everything to maintain some versatility. Or you could specialize in two roles (pilot/inf suit/medium armor, here;)

Correct, the game is more based on player skills then trained skills. There are enough certs though that you will have to specialize quite a bit. It all depends on what you want to do.

after looking at the scale. I doubt the truthfulness because i was underthe impresion that AMS would not be a cert. But anyway according to the chart I could build my char the way i want easily

AMS does require a cert. It is the ANT that does not require a cert.

Zatrais
2003-02-24, 06:59 AM
Gonna get all the MAX certs, medium armor, medium and heavy assault then a med cert... and hopefull i can get a mosquito or a reaver... course this is assuming most certs will be 2 points.

BigDickMccoy

Yea as was stated above, this game is about individual skills. Not the best certs, or increasing things like health and accuracy via a cert or other methods.

A vet will be on the same playing field as a newb, with the exception the vet will have a few more guns to play with.

You can et to BR5 in VR training bud.

i'm going to cert myself in armor and weapon first. then my buggy, then hacking and healing.

NapalmEnima

1) AMS
2) Agile armor (which is a pre-req for...)
3) AV MAX
4) engineering

That'll suck up the first 7-9 points I'd say. I can now guard the AMS pretty well, and repair it if need be.

I can't wait to test this out - Lancer+Manifier
Long range + AV + 2nd fastest projectile speed + Mag Implant = badass substitute for Bolt Driver.
Hope it works.

On another char:

1) Reaver
2) engineering
3) Agile armor
4) medium assault (assault rifles cert)

Blow Stuff Up from On High.

These are the certs I will be getting with my main character, in this order. Obviously subject to change, and I don't know the costs of each one, but I'm confident that it should be possible with a Battle Rank of 20 to get all of this, cept maybe the last two.

Standard Assault

Medium Assault

Agile Exo-Suit

Basilisk

Enforcer/Marauder/Harasser

Reinforced Exo-Suit

Reaver

Mosquito

Heavy Assault

Medical

Anti-Vehicular Assault

I'd probably have my other characters to experiment with MAXs, Tanks, Engineering etc, but this would be my main guy.

A few of you have said how your gonna get MAX or reinforced armor and also vehicle certs, well i beleve Reinforced can only drive open topped like buggy and wraith ect,as for MAX im not totaly sure mabey we got a smart admin who knows

Fire_Monkey
2003-02-24, 07:27 PM
The MAX can only ride in the sunderer or the galaxy. This is due to the fact that over time it can run as fast as a tank.

Nightmare
2003-02-24, 07:28 PM
a MAX is practically a vehicle in itself. I seriously doubt someone can be in a MAX and drive a buggy.

I am most certain (90%) that a MAX can drive any vehicle without a roof. Like the Harasser, Maurader etc.

Fire_Monkey
2003-02-24, 07:39 PM
No, I will repeat myself. A MAX can only ride in The Galaxy, or Sunderer. Straight from the devs. You are thinking of medium armor, which can only ride in open air vehicles.

EarlyDawn
2003-02-24, 08:04 PM
1)Agile
2)Harasser
3)Tossup between Sunderer (Most likely) or Empire Buggy
4)Reinforced
5)Empire Rifle/Punisher Cert
6) Heavy Assault

Implants:
Reinforced Combat
------------------------
Regeneration
Adv. Targetting
Surge would probably be a waste with the heavy armor, so... Personal Shield.

Harasser Driver
-------------------
Range Magnifier
Adv Targetting
Audio Amplifier

Wheelman (Sunderer Pilot)
----------------------------------
Range Mag (Good to see what's comming up on the road)
Darklight (Gotta see any stealths so I can run them over)
Surge or Personal Shield.

EarlyDawn
2003-02-24, 08:30 PM
Blech, on second thought, I'll probably nail the Harasser pre-Sunderer. Faster and probably more useful in the initial hit-and-run style combat situations that will arrise during the first few days of PS.

HRR Raven
2003-02-24, 08:35 PM
Everyone should probably get the bike with their first couple of points, so you can travel. The distances covered are massive, and a lack of galaxy pilots at first will make getting around a problem.

In BF1942 medic was my favorite attacker. I would always blast some peeps with my thompson and then go heal myself, rinse and repeat.
