I hope PS doesn't have any cheats when it comes out. This site specializes in making cheats for games like CS, and they claim they'll get ones for PS as well. I hope not cause that would sure ruin the game :(

http://www.multiplayercheats.net/

oops, wrong forum. Wanted this in game discussion and now I can't delete it :(

RTFFAQ NOOB!!!

/shit...I better finish it.....

"What about Cheaters and Griefers?
Systems are put into place on both of these fronts to help prevent gamers from being too big of a thorn in their own Empire's side. If a player injures other members of his or her own Empire, that player will begin to acquire grief points. As the grief points add up, the grief player will begin to be given certain disadvantages. At lower levels, he or she will not be able to fire weapons or drive vehicles at higher than 10% of its top speed. If the player manages to gain more grief points, the penalties will become more severe, up to and including suspension or permanent expulsion from the game.

We also have systems designed to nail down cheaters. More details on these will be publicized later. "

I know what they SAY they can do Navaron, but there's always a way around things. Go check out the site, if anyone can find a way around it, these guys can.

They have the abiliity to record what a suspected player is doing. Serverside, so no there is no way around that.

there is actually

if your really good, you can create a program that modifies all outgoing packets and lie to the server

then they could devise a program that looks for modified packets

back and forth, back and forth...

A "friend" of mine tweaked his videocard that allowed him to see through CVAR items in CS, like crates and doors. It was undetectable, only by visually watching him was he caught.

yeah, thats a client cheat relating to how your vid card renders things

they cant detect that

LOL! That's a funny pic. If you are suspected of cheating, a player can report you. The Devs either watch your behaviour, ban you, or sic the Watchdog program on you. The Watchdog randomly monitors people anyway. Very hard to cheat.

I don't think this will be as effective in Planetside. Dave said that they had some pretty ingenius code that made it so that you wouldn't be sent information about people that are behing hills or in buildings so as to be able to maintain high framerates even if there are 500 people in the area.

So if there is someone behind a hill and you modify your rendering to see behind the hill, you still won't see them.

1) This is pay to play. The only way to cheat more than once, is have multiple PayPal accounts, and maybe even then the credit cards might need to be in someone else's name.

2) Multiple NIC.

3) One time someone hacked the JumpGate server and gave themself an uber ship, not God Mode. Word got out fast about this person in an uber ship, and everyone was hunting him down while others reported him. Was great to hear about enemies working together to kill a hacker.

Oh man you wanna see cnc renegade its like a mafia run game.So many cheaters and fixers.I hope ps isent going to be like that after all we are paying for those types of things.

Games like CS the devs just make the game and throw it to the hounds. They dont have much to lose if cheaters run rampant. On a pay-to-play game, however, the devs DO have something to lose if people cheat.

My guess is that only people VERY dedicated to cheating will create successful cheats, and they will be few and far between, plus hounded by the devs 24/7.

Of course, if people spend that much time to create good cheats they are just waisting their own time. :D

Edit : Its going to be sad when people think World of Warcraft will be just like any other Blizzard game. Good example.

I agree with most everyone else, due to the pay to play aspect, devs will actually care about how people feel in game, and will need to ban cheaters and hackers.

say someone does find a way around the ps security system. the people should end up being blacksheeped by everyone else that knows they're cheating. that alone will keep cheating down, i would think.

Damn, I started this thread as a joke (which any who clicked on the link would know), but it's actually turned into a very nice discussion :D

I was just gonna say that.....uhhhh guys it was a joke click on the link

In anycase, anyone thinking about how hard it will be to notice a cheater? Theres no headshots, theres gonna be tons of people shooting at you, how will we pick out cheaters?

also, there are some cheats that ARE SOOO FRICKIN discreat it's really hard to see them. Although, i think since everything goes through a server it'll be a lot harder. However, i've watched a guy with a really nice cheat, and you couldn't even tell by watching his monitor that he was cheating.

Games don't need to be pay-to-play to cut out the cheating. Tribes 2 is almost entirely cheat-free. The patches that n00bs complained about having to download was actually aimed at eliminating alot of bugs that cheaters were exploiting. Plus, the community in Tribes doesn't put up with cheating. I don't know any other communities, so I'm not saying they *do* put up with cheating. Just sharing what I know.

What's really amusing is that someone is paying for that domain name. Now that's an idiot.

There is another version of that that has 10 windows pop up with the same thing when you close the first one. Nasty stuff.

Actually, I don't think he's an idiot (though it's more than likely that it's hosted by an organization, probably a clan). Heck I would probably pay for the domain name to host something like that. It's funny and it make's fun of cheaters. Domain names are cheap, and many people have server space/bandwidth to spare.

i don't think cheating will be a problem for PS or WoW. But I wish blizzaed would get ahold of the map hack problem in WC3. People don't even hide it. I submit numerous reports and never get any feedback (BTW they are hacking b/c I watch the replays and that way i know wether they scouted or not before i even send it). If they do ban someone is only for 30 days. I think it should be a perma-ban.

Was it just me who clicked the link to the website and actually got the joke? Thats not a cheat website, its a site that plays very loudly "YOU ARE AN IDIOT" and now my boss is glaring at me cos the whole office heard it. :( :(

Not funny... well maybe just a little bit.

ANYWAY it seems this thread has moved to how to hack planetside, well its quite simple really - it was done for EQ.

You situate your PC on a network. You have another box (in EQ it had to be a linux box, but since there is a raw packet full TCPIP implementation in winXP we dont need linux).

The box on your network is a packetsniffer. You have a proggie, um I don't know, lets call it ShowPS which then reads the information coming back and forth from the planetside servers and can show such all manner of wonderful things.

PLEASE NOTE: Since the beginning of EQ, Verant tried to eliminate this sort of tool, if it ran on the same box as your game (some rather limited versions of said software could, and run EQ in a window etc etc) Verant would check your task list and if you where running such programs you would get an instant ban. In the user agreement they had a clause which permitted them to check your computer for things. Anyway eventually this was removed as a violation of privacy etc etc.

Eventually they started running encryption on the packet data (pretty obvious huh).

I HOPE AND PRAY that the PS Dev team have learnt from previous MMO experience and encrypt this data from the outset, and avoid the fiascos that occured during EQ.

I'll answer my own post (thanks Zataris for the discussion!)...

Packet sniffings gonna be almost pointless due to the fact that the server won't send you any information that you can't already see/check...

Lets say theres a hill, and I'm the otherside of the hill, the server knows that the bloody great hill is in the way and won't send me the data of whats behind the hill until my FoV says I can see whats behind the bloody great hill.

I think we will have little to worry about as far as cheats are concerned in PS.

Dqua
2003-02-25, 03:45 PM
MikkyT: You're talking about ShowEQ, it offered barelly a little more than what a non user of it could do. Added users of showeq realized some serious errors in EQ's coding and game play that VI consistantly denied they existed until word spread that they, VI, were wrong. Until then, VI wouldn't do anything about those bugs. And no I never used it.

To the point of this thread: SoE/VI with EQ bans pretty quickly those who hack and they find out about. Like one of the faqs has stated that they have monitoring tools they can implent, they have those in EQ and do use them.

I wouldn't really worry about cheating, cause if someones cheating/hacking everyones gonna now and then EVERYONE is gonna be one there ass.

For example: an expert hacker hacks PS and then everyone unites, NC, Terran, Vanu all to kill hte hacker and stuff..rofl, imagine the chaos.
