How dare Cartoon Network make a mockery of the best anime of all time... This should not be how the US is introduced to EVA.... its just too sad.... :tear:

The best anime ever created is called "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and cartoon network is trying to show it. But it is rated R, so they are cutting a lot, they got the worst voice actors! and they are killing the dialog. They turned it from a great most famous anime in the world to a 3rd rate bla.... like turning PS into pong. its just too sad...

I highly recommend finding the real version of eva and watching it, it is very good.

They are even pronouncing all the names wrong..... :(

Tell me more about this eva.

How is this compared to say Cowboy Bebop or Trigun. Is the art as top to bottom good as Ghost in the Shell?

What are they cutting out of the Cartoon Network version to make it more PG-13? Is it just nudity and language that is being dropped?

BTW I would prefer edited exposure on cartoon network rather than no exposure at all.

Trigun is very good and one of my favs :D
But it is very hard to compare anything to eva...
I think that that description found here:
http://www.animeinfo.org/featured/eva/evathemeref.html
does an ok job of saying why it can not be referenced to much,
but just for a basic description of the VERY basics of the show, go here:
http://www.animeinfo.org/featured/eva/evastory.html
(read both, they are short and give you a good idea of what I am talking about)

Cartoon Network is cutting the core out of the show. They are making it to be a normal robot show. This is not what it is like. Eva deals with so many complex ideas, on so many levels.... It is more of a theory of mankind then a robot anime. Cartoon Network is trying to make it politically correct or something and not deal with these issues

It is nothing like you have ever seen, if trigun is like watching a fishing show, then eva would be the lord of the rings.

there is jsut so much to it, you can not describe it without watching some of it. that link does an ok job of describing everything though :D

the art is good (but not the best) but it is the incredible story line that makes it so unique.
Some screens are here:

the reason they are cutting it is because it will be mostly watched by watched by "1337" kiddies, generally people who can't think on a deeper level than peanut butter.

probly a smart business move

NGE is a great series but I like wacky animes a bit more. Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Martian Successor Nadeisco, and Vandread. Pretty damn funny space comedy animes with some serious under tones.

Well I don't know what the differences are between US and Japanese Cartoon Network, but they are going to show Jin Roh here in Japan pretty soon as a movie special. I can imagine a bunch of little kids watching that :D. If they rate NGE as R in the states then Jin Roh is never going to see the light of day....

Lain is pretty screwed up, but the more you watch the more addictive it becomes. Anyone here seen Stand Alone Complex? Its the tv series of Ghost in the Shell, I have only seen the first 4 but they are pretty good, decent story and lots of action.

Heheh i've got the whole box set of eva that dio showed there. I don't think the average person could sit through the last 2 episodes. I loved em all thats for sure, best part is that fkin 3 min pause in the elevator with Asuka and Rei, then Rei says one thign and Asuka goes off on her. Lol suprised the hell outta me i thought my DvD broke or something.

And theres that OTHER long ass pause with EVA1 holding that guy for like 4 min, I still haven't figured out that one.

But ya that was definately good stuff.

Lain hurts. I mean if your gonna watch Lain you gotta sit your ass down and pay attention lol. it should come with some guy who slaps you if you take your eyes off the screen.:)

I have not seen Jin Roh, is it any good? I have seen ghost in the shell, but not stand Alone Complex, ill have to find it :D

I do have to agree that the more of lain you watch (esp since the 1st time I saw it I watched it in 1 sitting  ) that it becomes more and more addictive. Must be all the subliminal messaging :p

The difference between the US cartoon Network and the one over there is that over here, they destroy everything that the put on the air, since they try and make it politically correct, and not offend anyone in any way.
it is like if the put the story of Romeo and Juliet on there, they would take out the love story, the ending, and the family's fighting, since those things could offend someone. Its just sad.

I can't believe someone here has actually seen Child's Toy... I really thoguht I was the only one :)

Lain is Kewl... but if I was going for intellectual I would check out Perfect Blue. Where I live we have an Anime store that rents! it rocks all!

Anyone seen the Trailer for the new Macross! That looks awesome! (Ok so off the intelegent Anime theme but still awesome!)

Also if you get the chance and in MIRC get the series "The Jungle was Always Nice Then Came Guu" Has to be the Funniest thing I've ever seen come out of Japan.

As for the Ghost in the Shell tv series... hehehehe

That's one we won't be seeing on Toonami... I've only seen 2 eps but... jeeeez

ARGH!!

The one night i decide to go to bed early (right after eva was shown on CN and after my wild rant to my 'rents about exactally this) I miss one of the sweetest posts i've seen in this forum so far!

unfortunatally I have not seen Eva as of yet, but seeing the first episode on CN, and knowing how great it was there, it must be EXCELENT on DvD, So i ordered "it", and downloaded all of the episodes off of Kazaa Lite to hold me over, till the box gets here.

|~YaY~|

Also, if you like the goofy animes, I dont think you can get more goofy than the tenchi series. Please dont flame me if you dont like tenchi. Unfortunatally I ahd to see it dubbed down on CN as well, and so can only guess REALLY how good it was.

Lets keep this post going!

Best series of all time: Rurouni Kenshin

It had the best character development and story line. It had a good mix of humor in there even though the basis for the story was pretty dark. If you haven't seen it I suggest getting it. ALL 97 EPISODES OF IT!

For the painfully uneducated in the way of the Ani-Dork

Fushigi Yuugi = Mystereous play (Not porn though if someone got it thinking so it would be a terrible shock)
Shojo = Anime By women primarily for a female audience.

so you uneducated goof Fushigi Yuugi is not Urotsko Doshi or any of the other add named porn... it's just good

Know a little something before you post

BLuE_ZeRO

I use man porn very loosely when talking about Fushigi Yugi. I wasn't referring to it as porn I was referring more to the fact that it's an extremely gay series. Fushigi Yugi's target audience are girls hence the excessive "hot man" presence in it. It's nothing but a blatantly gay cock fest.

You want to start debating anime with me fine but if you wish to start name calling I can oblige you fucking moron.

Misunderstood what you were saying and with the Kewl things from Monoke on your sig shoulda known better... so sorry for any name calling. (although you may want to take your ritalin bit over reactive don't you think)

As for Yuugi being Gay... well... there are a few ellements, but for those of us who have to share our anime with our wives  You learn to appreciate the Shojo, especially with one as much action as Yuugi... still in my oppinion the best story telling...

Kenshin was great for most of it but the forth season kinda lost me... after how awesome 3rd season was I just felt it got weak. (the OAV's are some of the best stuff ever)

Anyone out there seen Macross Zero yet? I've only seen the trailer but it looks super kewl!

And as for an anime debate... Bring it anytime son... I've been doing this sense Battle of the Planets aka Starblazers in the 70s...

Jin Roh is extremely violent, but it has a deep story and is really sad overall. If anyone has seen Grave of the Fireflies it's like that (In the sad story sense).

I haven't seen the all of Rurouni Kenshin, but what I have seen is damn good.

Ritalin? me? bah I'm calm :D

lol Starblazers. You seem to have a few years on me but I've been watching Japanese cartoons since mid 80's I was a bit young but meh.

Kenshin sort of got wierd later on in the series but I don't think it really lost anything. It was still great and it gave the characters a chance to evolve a bit more. I wasn't really happy with the ending but there is actually an OVA called the Seisouhen OVA (I believe that's how you spell that) that takes it a bit farther. Everyone is a bit older in it but it's still good. It was only available in Japan but I'm sure you can find it somewhere for download.

No I haven't seen Macross Zero yet. Where is the trailer? online or on another movie?

Jin Roh was pretty damn violent. I'm not a huge fan of dark and depressing animes but it was pretty good.

There's a ton of great anime out there old and new. I've been watching anime for a very long time and have come across a ton of good stuff. I'm not talking about that manga stuff either, althought there's a ton of that kind of stuff out there too. If you like good old fashion D&D RPG stuff check out Record of Lodoss War and .hack//sign or .hack a.k.a. dot hack sign or dot hack. And yes dot hack has been made into a PS2 title, that's probably where you've seen or heard of it before. If anyone truely wants to see any anime series buy or rent it because all the censorship to get it on tv cuts it way down and chops it up really bad depending on the series or movie for that fact. Take DBZ for example even thout over in Japan it has a lot of cussing and various other things that are cut out. Sadly to get the full meaning or effect of most anime titles you have to watch them in japaneese because even the meaning of words is cut down some in translation to english whether it's subbed or dubbed. Sory I'm a huge anime fan I know know ecactly how some of you feel when one of your favorite titles gets gutted by the censorship board.

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-26, 02:34 AM
DBZ was fine as far as editing went. I saw the whole series in Japanese and then saw what cartoon network did to it. You didn't lose much from them cutting out the cussing. Wasn't really a necessity to the series but what they do to some other series is just insane.

I saw the hack series it was ok but it was just a little too boring for my tastes. I was playing the game last weekend and it isn't too bad. They take alot of the anime aspects but spice it up a little so it's a pretty good game.
