BTW not to act like a hard ass or anything but this belongs in the lounge. toight. I'm upping my comp for about 400 bucks. Gforce4 MX460, Athlon XP, (new power supply heh)450 watt ATX, 512 MB RAM PC2700. And a new monitor for my b-day!

My comp is rather cruddy. It falls short in every single minimum requirement. That's sad. 900 MhZ, 128 RAM, 32 MB Graphics Card. :(

mine is pretty bad too, I applied anyway, wanted to get my application in there, even though I'm upping soon.

I'm sorry, let me clarify a bit. It's not a Dual-Channel DDR Motherboard, but it is a pretty damn fast one. I was thinking of another rig I'm building.

Well the total all in all was about $3000. The basic setup was around 2k but with the speakers, monitor, keyboard and mouse it set it just at around 3. Paid quite a bit for it but meh what ya gonna do.

I must compliment you on the speakers, those babies are nice. Although your choice of monitor is somewhat disturbing... ;)

It's actually a really nice monitor and it was like 300 cheaper than the viewsonic equivalent. i was looking at the monitor at a local computer store and I was impressed enough to ditch my CRT monitor for it.

<shrug> Fair enough. I must admit, must be pretty nice having an LCD. I just don't pay too much attention to them cause the refresh rate just isn't up to par for me. I'm spoiled, I suppose. Got a 22'' FlatCRT sitting infront of me right now... <drool>

I just needed something that saved some space on my desk and looked pretty good. The speakers are great but they are taking up most of my desk along with my case.

From what I've read, you shouldn't have to buy a new soundcard. The onboard audio on that mobo is supposed to be killer. That said, I haven't listened to it with a speaker system like yours. But, I know I wouldn't be shelling out $200 for a new soundcard if I had that onboard chip (and I usually hate onboard crap).

Yeah I know that's why didn't in the first place. I've always had problems with onboard devices but I also heard this was very good so I probably won't.

hmmm am i on the ps site it doesn't sound to much like it? But since we are kinda on the topic of how powerful our comps are i thought i might just throw some stuff in. I have a 1.4 Mhz with 256MB and radeon 9000 pro now my question is is that if your system requirements are a bit low will they not allow u in beta?

BLuE_ZeRO
2003-02-24, 09:31 PM
Well I hope you have a 1.4ghz and not a 1.4mhz...

This is a Planetside fan site. We talk about planetside and a range of other things as well. Don't let us scare you :D

In reponse to the beta question... it's possible. They are going to most likely choose the people that meet the minimum requirement first and then after that they will choose from the people that are close to meeting it. It's up to them though and we aren't totally sure.:)

Well I hope you have a 1.4ghz and not a 1.4mhz... Not many people are above 2GHz, and yet I am going to be? What's up with that? My computers always suck, and yet I'm gonna get a 2.53GHz (which is a full 5 time faster than my current one)

Mine clocks in at 2.16 or something like that but I read it's easy to safely OC it to 2.5ghz without having any stability issues. The performance output from it is on par with the P4 3.06 ghz and in some tests even tops out the P4.

So, how do you overclock somethng, and by how much could I safely alter mine? Also, where the hell do you find all these custom things that are just altered versions of already existing products, that apparently wor better? (wouldn't they get sued for that? What am I missing here?!)

I may be getting better computer/more RAM/better card! Yay! Now to solve problem of my 45k connection... Will PS support Proxies? I run a Proxy through a Satellite connection.

There are tons of tutorials on the net for overclocking. Just find one that matches your hardware and then follow the steps. Some things can be overclocked through your bios others have to be manually overclocked.

As for altered versions... as for as the legal ones are concerned, certain manufacturers request the right to alter a certain piece of hardware from say nvidia or ATI. They do modifications to it and I'm sure the original company has some final say in it but who knows. Probably don't want some faulty pos with their model name on it or something so they probably do. The GF4 ti4680 turbo or whatever from Albatron is an example of that.

My Athlon 2000 xp is runnin at 52c
That's around 135f

That always has worried me but it's been doing it for a year now with 0 stability or performance problems.

I think the Athlons just run hot.

At least that's what I read.

All I need is 3k and I'm off to buying something tougher then I currently have that will make the lights flicker when I turn it on :)

That's all I ask for:cool2:

Sattellite? Dang man, can you even play ANY FPSs with that? The 1-2 second delay is horrible for playing FPSs, I highly doubt you will be able to play PS very well with sattellite, if there's any other broadband options available to ya I'd suggest you take it. Heck, even 56k dial up can play better than sattellite.
