I was reading IGN a few minutes ago and I decided to look up when DNF was announced.

They released a screenshot (see thumbnail) a couple months ago. Of what looked like a PS1 CGI. Yea..I really dont care. But that list is pretty impressive.

They released some game. Prey or something. That they announced around the same time as duke nukem.
Also world war two happened after the ps1 was made. The nazis had maus tanks and fought with the allies to end communist china.

That doesn't make any sense. How was the 33.6k connection the fastest in 1997? Am I missing something or is that list extremely wrong? Didn't 56kpbs and several cable, dsl connections and, several other odd connection types exist at the time. To say the least. Not to mention how far back did 128-256 connection exist with multiple 56k modems?
And I don't think half of those games description were any where near close. Extreme sports games have existed for about 10-20 years on top of half of what was mentioned. On PC and in consolses(Including Nintendo). That whole list is half fabricated. I think the guy was just trying to make stuff up(or is assuming that stuff just started to exist because it currently has some popular versions running he knows about.). I don't think he has no idea when that stuff started to exist.
And did you notice almost all of those sports feilds went from basically local or city names to something based on a company.
Things that have taken less time than Duke Nukem Forever's Development:
Pop Culture:
The Beatles formed, released every single one of their albums and broke up. During this time they also toured the world several times.
Led Zeppelin released 7 albums, 9 singles, and toured around the world, crossing international borders 27 times (not counting mainland Europe.)Science & Technology:
The Wright brothers designed and flew the first airplane.
The theory of General Relativity.
The United States' entire program to put a man on the moon, from Kennedy's challenge to the landing.Wars:
The American War for Independence
The United States Civil War
World War I
World War II and the entire Manhattan Project.
The United State's involvement in the Vietnam War.Those are interesting if they are true though.

I'd say 33.6 is about right for 97.
56k was just starting to get popular - as far as the modem linking.. I never knew anyone who accomplished that successfuly. hehe

Ait'al, I hate to call people out for being a dumbass, but I will here.
You're a dumbass.
Just because a game doesn't get released to the US does not mean that it exists. I take it that you're talking about the Megaman series, which was freeking HUGE in Japan. And it's true about all of those sports teams. It's the nature of their business; make the best bang-for-the-buck now. I'm glad that if Green Bay EVER has to leave, that the name Packers stays in Green Bay and that they cannot name their next field anything dealing remotely with the history and tradition of the Packers. Makes me a proud American to know that my team will stay where it is for a very LOOOONNNNGGG time.

The part about the Wars is true. We did have military advisors in Vietnam long before our involvement started. But that really doesnt count.
Cant speak for the Beatles and Led Zeppelin but the historical stuff is spot on.

Windows 98 had only been just released in 1997. The internet's awesome popularity only really took off with Win98 and beyond...before that it was a niche thing or a business/government thing. 1998 saw the internet boom. And 1999 saw the ditcoms. 2000 is when broadband became more than just a myth (people were still bragging about their T-1s).
Yeah the internet was a real big bang in terms of evolution.

I had a 56k modem in '98, and was connecting at 48kbps. In '97, well, I do believe 33.6 was the order of the day until late in the year. Being a history buff, I can say the list looks mostly ok.
Go PACKERS! Go DUKE! :stupid:
