British scientists are planning to see whether a Star Trek-style deflector shield could be built to protect astronauts from radiation.
They argue that magnetic shields could be deployed around spacecraft and on the surfaces of planets to deflect harmful energised particles.

Would this not wreak havok on any comunication you wanted to do with the ship. Seen that radio waves are radiation and all.

So is light, but I imagine light can pass through, you just need to set it to intercept the right waves you want filtered out.

Yes because a weapon that takes about a minute to charge up to blast something, that doesn't pierce the ground, walls, roof and that makes a high pitch noise everyone can hear is really effective. :rolleyes:
