Pirates of the Burning Sea is the only upcoming MMO that interests me.

Can't say that I care. Warhammer always seemed really strange to me.

Besides, I have painful memories watching younger kids on the school bus arguing about which units were better, comparing paint jobs on their space marines, and reading off stats from their warhammer books whose size rivals that of Jane's flight simulator manuals.

I like LotRO. I don't feel pressured into getting the UberSwordofDhoom. Or the LeatherArmoroftehNightElfHottness either. It's perfect for the 'casual' MMOer. Besides, WHO sort of skeeves me. Not sure why.

P.S. the term "weaksauce" is overplayed. Need to find a new 'hot' word Vic.

I'm old fashioned. I still "psych" people out for gags.

I pay less attention to what's in a MMORPG's FAQ and more to who's making it and what've they've done. Mark Jacobs -- Mythic's CEO -- is a douche and thinks he knows what he's doing and what players want, but he doesn't. DAoC was interesting in its approach to PvP from an "EQ-game" perspective but they made a whole slew of really bad decisions with that game, and it's since fallen into obscurity.

WAR looks to be little more than WoW in the Warhammer setting. And the Warhammer setting, while cool, isn't going to compensate for the fact that Mythic cannot make a MMORPG as well as Blizzard can. Sure, they're trying to make the game more PvP-centric than WoW, but you're kidding yourself if you think it's just going to be PvP and that's it. They've even stated that PvE will still be a focus of the game and will be how you progress through the levels.

While I'm certainly going to try it and I really hope Mythic proves me wrong, I got burned bad by them with DAoC and it seems to me that they're simply hoping to make WoW 2.0 here. Which, quite honestly, is insane. Nobody can beat WoW. WoW needs to run out of steam on its own and then maybe someone who can actually design games well will come along and usurp its throne. Until then I'd be very skeptical.

Darkfall Online

An untested developer with dreams that dwarf its budget or expertise. I would be really happy if Darkfall did half of what it wants to do and with anything resembling bug-free, balanced gameplay, but I've seen too many MMOGs promise the moon and... well, and now they're happy to have a few thousand subscribers while WoW dominates the scene.

edit: Seriously though on paper it sounds so awesome but there are a lot of ways they can totally blow it and make it a piece of shit like Horizons or Shadowbane. Shadowbane especially. Darkfall really reminds me of Shadowbane pre-release, only its fans are much less rabid.

Just because you stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night, doesn't mean you know shit about anything.

NCSoft churn out MMOs like they're cars on a manufacturing line. City of Heroes is good though.

Its combat system has more in common with any other MMORPG's than it does with a FPS. Also, magic in space.

This thread is making me realize the MMOG genre has basically no hope.
