So yea,
You know in the movies how they occasionally have a car's brakes fail and the car goes careening through busy streets, people, buildings ect.. I always knew it COULD happen, I just didn't think it did... at least not often. Enter my shit box beater car I drive to work every day. Now its two tone, its slow, and its dirty... but I'm the son of a gear head, thusly I am a gear head. I take care of all three of my vehicles, including my beater car. Oil, brakes, and air fresheners. Sometimes, as we all know, you can go SOL.
So I am on I-87N (anyone from the area knows it as "The Northway") approaching an exit I wanna take. I'm going about 70, speed limit is 65. (The real speed limit on I-87 is actually the same as the road name without the I ;) ) So I am approaching this exit, and some guy cuts me off doing maybe 60. I jam on my brakes only to find my brakes arn't braking, for they are broke.
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *Swerve* *Dodge* *Dart* *Weave* *Drive onto grass* *Roll to a stop* *Get out* *Scream* *Fall to ground panting*
Turns out my wheel cylinder assembly blew a gasket at a very bad time. Thankfully I drive a standard, so I used the transmission to slow my self down enough to use the E-Brake to stop from 1st gear. It took me about half an hour to go 5 miles but I got it to my Dad's shop and got it all fixed. 2 1/2 hours and 80 dollars later. I wish it had been more spectacular, like in the middle of down town Albany, but not my car, and not me.
P.S. Thank god for Firefox. Crashed in the middle of typing this :) Recovered.
